Aww Gee Kath!
Yer makin' it tough on me
gt;
Thank you for the kind words.
I may try out the free e-mail account idea to see what happens. Liza suggested it also, and it's a good idea.
I'm just one of those people who really resents feeling "monitored" although fodors DOES own the site.
I guess I may just wait for awhile and see how it goes once they are requiring the registration.
Kath, you will LOVE Nevis.

Don't like the Big Brother aspect either. This board has always been lively, funny, informative, nasty & honest which = INTERESTING! You have to take the good with the bad, but overall IMHO it has been mostly good. The mean and foul langage posts have always been quickly deleted, which has been much appreciated. I have learned much from all the gererous people out there and have in turn tried to pass it on.

FYI www.caribline.com is great too, no registration. I have found it very pleasant and informative

nancy
I also have 2 accounts and have used my hotmail account to register for holidaytruths- in my opinion a better site. (although I have asked them to seperate the Caribbean from America in their forum) Your email address is never displayed and I have never received any spam. Fodors have lost too many regulars recently and really have had to take action.

Thanks Nancy, I do hope you'll hang around. But I understand where you coming from. I'm worried that registration will kill most of the fun around here. We'll have to wait and see I guess. If I weren't so addicted to Fodor's I'd considering bailing out now too, but (ACK) I can't stand the thought!

Well, the upside to the registration process will certainly cut down on the more obnoxious posts. At least I hope so. I have never seen a board (except for some sports related) that can rally get so bad.

Now, with someone's email address at the top, there may be a little accountability.

BTW: Nancy, I enjoyed a few debates with you and reading some of your posts. Before you posted I had no idea that the dolphin swim program hurt the animals. Now I wouldn't swim with them unless it was in a totally free area.

Thank you Dave!
Just hearing that someone got that info from me and made up their mind not to do that completely made my day!
There are a lot of other posters who are really well-informed on the dolphin situation, so I'm sure they'll keep people apprised of what goes on behind the scenes.
I'm glad to know that some of my posts may have been helpful to people, and I'll be adopting a "wait and see" attitude for this.
The US board is in a HUGE uproar over it.

Ok, I must be blind. But I don't see where we have to register either. Is it on the main page? If so, that could be why I missed it cause my link is set up to go straight to forums.

I too will have to think about the registration and will miss some of the "fun" exchanges. Oh well, perhaps I could get some work done now!

And real quick want to add a ditto to the compliments to Nancy. Your persistant and well informed. I'm happy to see that your info has educated atleast one person and I'm sure others too.

All you posters who are complaining about registration, B Y E ! Thank you Fodors with the registration. Its about time they did something. I for one have been posting here since 1997 and seen this forum go down hill because of all the nasty rude remarks, cutting posters down cause someone dosn't think they know what they are talking about, continuing harassment, etc. This is a travel forum and that's what it should be for. If you don't like restatration, leave, its the best thing for the forum and all the posters helping people with there vacations. Its not for what y'all called posting.

I just registered. Quick and painless and no problem at all. I used my .yahoo email address and that was all there was to it.

I don't personally have any concerns about the Big Brother syndrome, though I do hope that Fodor's is honest when they say they will not be making these email addy's available on a mailing list. I also hope they stay away from the dreaded pop-ups. Pop-ups WOULD make me leave.

But I am thankfull that no other flamer can use the name I have registered and therefore when I do post, those who recognize my name will be able to judge the veracity of my statements. This alone is worth registering for.

I will now be "Canuck_at_Canada_eh"
With only 20 characters available I couldn't get the whole line in to say Canadian. Oh well, small price to pay.

Final word. Thanks Fodor's for the registration plan.

Steve

Kudos to Fodors--hopefully the rude and vulgar posts will be a distant memory. However, this will now be one more website that I have to remember a password and login name for. I really liked that this site was anonymous. Oh well, welcome to the 21st century.

Although Fodors claims that it will not sell our personal information (only to result in more e-mail spam), note a portion of Fodor's Privacy Policy: "Generally, a user's personally identifying information may be used by Fodor's, its parent companies, subsidiaries, and affiliates for editorial, marketing, or promotional purposes."

Hmmm...

I've enjoyed reading peoples posts, and helping people with info about (Jamaica). Once I have to register to post, that will be the end for me as well. Yes, the board will become more tame, but I'm not interested in the potential privacy issues involved.

It's very disheartening to see how just a few can ruin it for so many well-meaning and kind folks. This has happened to SO many bb's I've been to....bummer.

Nancy, I will miss your posts also. You and I have seem to have had similar experiences re: the same Islands, and similar feelings on things, like the recent 'Billy Goat Gruffs and the Troll under the bridge post! - ha!'

I'm very thankful for your advising about swimming with the dolphins. I've never done it, but never knew that, either. Due to that inhumane treatment, I will try to discourage anyone I know that brings this up.

Have to agree with poster Eric, about the "potential privacy issues."

It's really a shame....

WELL.... know we all know just who the cyberstalker really is. And it must be you who has been kicked off several internet providers because of it.

You truly are a jerk, and I really feel sorry for you. To make yourself feel better by posting nasty information about anyone, including me.

Yes I am known by the Bahamas Consulate, because of the volunteer work I have done raising money for churches and a day care center in the Bahamas. I am also proud to say that I was given the first Consul General Award, presented by the Consulate here in New York, in recognition for many years of volunteer work I have done, including raising money after several major hurricanes and much damage.

I have gone to many islands in the carribean and like the Bahamas, as well as several other islands.

To put someone's personal information on a bb is so nasty. It is not YOUR choice to have someone's information made public. That should be my choice and mine alone.

I certainly will be glad when you have been wiped off this board and we don't have to worry about fools like you.

Again, I feel sorry for you.

seems that the efforts to have someone kicked off are limited since he still lurks and posts with different names. All that is needed is a new account.
Seems that registration may be a move in the right direction so that the abusers can be controlled and some who are self-declared experts will be held accountable with the reliability of their information. It's unfortuante that it is necessary and it's a step in the right direction hopefully.

Amazing how a few people can screw things up for everyone else. Lots of people with useful information won't be posting anymore for the same reason that I won't -- I am sick of getting spammed. I get far too much junk e-mail already and I don't believe that registering with Fodors won't lead to an exponential increase in the garbage that I get.

I registerd last night using an email account that I use exclusively for things like this. I just go in once every couple of weeks and delete anything that's there. I'm certain that Fodors will use our information and email address for marketing purposes. Their "privacy policy" says so pretty explicitly but the separate email account solves that problem.
The quality of discourse on this board may well improve, I'm hoping for the best.
Time will tell.

What makes me MAD is that Fodor's responded to a request from me to clean up a thread I started (it had the *F* word - probably from Tweedy's Bahama hating tormenter). Anyway, their email specifically stated that "they can ban certain posters from posting." Looks like they haven't made any effort on Tweedy's behalf. Could they just be lazy? Also, on the thread I was referring to, they removed one of the jerk's posts, but left the one in all caps with the *F* word in it...now that's what I call LAZY. No other explanation, there were only 7 entries on the thread. It's still there today, months later.

Lazy won't change with registration. But at least we'll know which cowards' name(s) to look out for...and ignore. See ya creep!

I too will not be registering. While I enjoy giving travel advice when I can help, I can do that elsewhere. It's the troll posts that keep me more entertained. I imagine this board will get kind of boring once registration starts - for me anyway - it just won't be the same. It really has nothing to do with whether my real e-mail address is posted or not. It's all about what I enjoy reading. Albeit I do enjoy the travel related posts but just not enough to make me want to register. It's a matter of principle for me as well.

Does anyone know when the registration requirement goes into effect?
