Puerto Rico - Please Help

Hello Friends,

We are traveling to Puerto Rico for the first time and wanted to make sure we don't miss any key place. So appreciate your response to the following questions -

1) The "must-see" places. We also have kids under 5 yrs but since 2 familes exist we can take turns.
2) Do the casinos require formal attire? Or do jeans/shorts work?
3) Best Restaurants you've come across and any vegetarian places will also be helpful since some of are vegetarians.

FYI, we will be there for 3 days. We leave tomorrow night, so appreciate your responses.

Thanks so so very much,

Dodz.

(I accidently posted this in the US forum and was asked to repost here)

It would depend a great deal on where you are staying - as you have only a short time to explore a very big island. We went for 8 days in November with our two kids (then four and seven). While on the main island our "musts" were Old San Juan and the forts, Luquillo Beach and El Yunque. We also spent a few days on Vieques and did the bio-bay.

While in San Juan we stayed at the Marriott and everyone in the casinos/social areas was dressed well - no jeans, no shorts. Can't speak for other hotel casinos that may or may not be more casual. For a restaurant search - hit the TA site and do a search...you'll find everything you need (including "kid-friendly" places...but we found all the major areas of PR to be very kid-friendly!)

Good luck!

Not sure what part of the island you'll be on, nor what your interests might be.

Take a look at http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/#first-time which has a selection of "must see" things for "first time" visitors.

Also, check out our "with kids" section http://www.puertoricodaytrips.com/#with-kids (which admittedly has some of the same stuff in it!).

Hopefully these will give you a bunch of ideas in a short period of time.

Shorts would be inappropriate in the casinos in the evening - and chilly also, the casinos tend to blast the a/c. Nice jeans would be fine. If you are staying in the San Juan area or in Isla Verde in particular, there is a good family type restaurant called the Metropol. Good mix of Puerto Rican families and tourists. It is casual, inexpensive and very good.

Thank you so much friends. BTW, I just found out that we are staying in a place named Isle Verde and will have a rental car for ourselves.

I am at work right now, but will print out this thread and links later today.

Keep them coming, if any and thanks again for your help.

I'll keep you posted on how the trip was.

Regards,

Dodz.
