Primitive Surroundings?
My family & I are searching for primitive surroundings for simply an island/paradise escape that we can go in June for around 5 days. We would fly from Houston or Dallas. We have a very limited budget of around $2000 & want suggestions of any areas in and around the Carribean that may come close to that budget! Thank you!

I've never been there, so I cannot comment, but I'm looking for a similar place, and you might want to check out http://www.mexicoholiday.com/destinations/kailuum.html
beachfront tents, and it includes breakfast and dinner for about $50/pp per day.

The coast of Mexico south of Cancun is a very good area to find what you are looking for and you can get inexpensive ($300) flights from Tx.
The other poster made a good suggestion, and there are plenty of other places in the region to choose from as well.

In addition to the area south of Playa del Carmen in Mexico, I'd look at southern Belize. We head for Placencia a week from today, we're staying in a small cabin on the beach, $75.00 a day. Looks great, hope I say that when I get home. We are then heading up to Mexico and will stay at one of cabana type properties along the beach there. It seems to be more expensive.

If you want primitive AND paradise, check out Maho Bay Camps. They rent for $75/night from May - Dec. My husband and I went there during our budget days, had a tent high up on the hill, for breezes and privacy (and stairclimbing!). It was so beautiful, and we cooked in alot. The tent/cottages are well designed, and the beach there and those nearby are just gorgeous. Bring DEET! Here's the URL: http://www.maho.org/Maho.cfm
