I honeymooned at JI a few years back. I flew into Montego Bay - can't recall how long the drive was - possibly 1 hr? Not worth another plane.

Any questions about JI?

For Ocho Rios, you fly into Montego Bay.
It is a 2 hour bus ride. You can also fly Timair, Air Jamaica Express or several others.
Jamaica Inn is a very nice, upscale property.

To go to Ocho, you fly into MoBay. The bus ride is aobut anhour and a half to two hours but you can fly there in 20 minutes. Air Jamaica is haveing a special right now that the shuttle flight is free if you fly into MoBay on Air Jamaica.

Ochee's a 2 hour drive from MoBay--don't take a tourist bus/hire a JUTA driver or a private driver or fly in on a connector flight (the road's not terribly interesting...)Flying into Kingston puts you much much farther away.Portee's a 3 hour drive with LOTS of great stops en route for exploration as is Portee itself -- stay overnight in Port Antonio. JI is traditional neocolonial elegance,an older crowd, a gracious style and one of the better choices in Ochee if you must stay in Ochee.

thank you everyone, and thank you tiverton i knew i could count on you for an answer.
do you think going to ochee is a mistake? should i skip it & just do port antonio instead? in that case i should fly into kingston, right?

any suggestions in portee (both to do/stay at) would be appreciated. i had dinner at dragon bay once but i don't really like the resort feel. a friend recommended goblin hill too. what do you think? thank you!

We were in Jamaica Inn of May,02. The grounds and the beach is nice. Also, you will hear all kinds of nature noise while you're trying to sleep at night. IF you're used to the nature then no promblem. If you're looking for luxurious resort then Jamiaca Inn is not for you. I'm referring to the room & bathroom (it is not Ritz Carlton or four seasons). However, if you want piece and quiet, relaxation then it is the place. Also it is about 1.5 to 2 hrs drive from the airport depend upon the traffic. Montego bay is closer to fly in then Kingston. Port Antonio is atleast 3.5 to 4 hrs from Montego bay & the road has too many potholes. It is all personal preference, because for us the mattress, sheets and bathroom conditions are not up to date. Air condition is noisy. However, the staff, beach and the food is good.
