I agree with Mexico - the Mayan Riviera region is beautiful and lots to see and do. Check out www.differentworld.com for a listing of "small boutiques hotels" or www.mexicoboutiquehotels.com. Also, you can check out www.playadelcarmeninfo.com, tuluminfo.com and www.locogringo.com for lots of info on the region.

We have travelled a fair amount in the Caribbean and Mexico and Aruba was the most commercialized or Americanized island so far. It is a very small island (19.6 x 6 miles) and is basically flat, windy and desert (think Arizona) island with little vegetation. Almost everything has to be imported. Gambling is the main entertainment in Aruba. The island is easy to see in a day or two. We personally didn't find the snorkeling very good and we found the ocean clarity on Palm Beach terrible. We could not see our feet even near the shoreline. There is almost every American fast food chain on this small island and there are even a couple of American restaurants such as Hooters and Tony Romas. Palm Beach has lots of highrises and we found it not very romantic and it was a very busy beach with lots of motorized water activity and busy. I felt like I was on a beach in the U.S.

I can personally recommend the Mayan Riviera area of Mexico. Some great snorkeling and beaches there and lots to see with the Mayan ruins to explore and eco/water parks and lots of culture and history. Avoid Cancun as it too is very commercialized or Americanized, but go further south to Riviera Maya. Some beautiful resorts too. Emily has recently hit this area and I am not sure how far ahead your honeymoon is, but you may want to consider this destination.

Antigua was a great island as is St. Lucia.

In St Lucia, there's Ladera http://www.ladera.com/index.asp
with its three walled rooms (definitely unusual architecture) and Anse Chastenet, which is also different, but not as nice as Ladera.

Not all the beaches on St Lucia are black sand.

Try Victoria House or Turtle Inn in Belize. They are both great beach resorts, and also have some wildlife experience and Maya ruins nearby. Both very sexy and very popular for honeymoons.

It's got to be St. Barts. Sexy (it's France, need I say more?) gorgeous views, no large high rise hotels, casino, crime or poverty. Great mountianside horseback riding, pristine beaches, hikes to beautiful snorkeling where you can swim nude with no gawekers---and 1/2 the guest rooms are in private villas that dot the hillsides. Superb French dining abounds.
We stay in a private hillside villa with clean crisp design where the inside flows outside--- a mountain behind, and lots of stars above with the ocean crashing below.
Cayman (500 banks??) Aruba and the Bahamas are totally flat and not pretty at all except for the beaches.
