Nassau / Paradise Island - Need Help!
Hi,
My boyfriend and I are looking into traveling to Nassau the last week of May. We've never been there before. We would like to know how the weather is like during the end of May. What is there to do around the area (what are the must-dos)? How long we should stay there for and what to expect. Thank you and your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Weather should be mid to upper 80's during the days - high 60's to mid 70's at night.
Many answers to you next questions. What are you looking for? Nassau / Paradise Island may not be the right Carribean destination for you. There are a nice selection of resorts on Paradise Island and around Nassau, however you won't really feel like you are "getting away" if you stay there (except perhaps at Compass Point). Maybe an out-island would be a better idea for you? Just depends on what you are after with this trip.
Nassau has some good shopping downtown on Bay St. and at the Straw Market (if you like that sort of thing). There are some very good restaurants in Nassau also. Paradise Island has some great beaches and, of course, you have to see the Atlantis - just to see it. No matter what people say, it is an impressive place to see (mixed emotions as to whether it is a good place to stay or not).

Last week of may will be beautiful, you can count on 85 degrees everyday! Take a trip to paradise island for a day, go parasailing, take the booze cruise!, snorkeling, fishing excursions, laying in the sun drinking a riveria! you name it, depending on what you guys want to do.
As far as staying there, one week would be a good amount of time. Relax,(no one is in any hurry to do anything!!) talk to the people, take the bus, have fun! oh and call a travel agent.

Thanks to your comments. I can't wait now. We've actually made a little adjustments to our departure. Instead of leaving the last week of May, we will be leaving mid-May. I'm sure it'll be just as nice. We've decided to split our 8 night stay, 5 at Nassau and 3 at Paradise Island. That way, we can cover most grounds.
As in regards to what we like to do, we are "activity" people. We want to see and do a lot. We already planned to do a lot of the water activities, going shopping, visiting the casino and Atlantis. What about nightlife? Any recommendations or suggestions? Any other hints in regards to what we can do is appreciated. Thanks.

Don't bother moving hotels that does not make sense. Paradise Island is right next to Nassau, you might want to get a book so you have a better idea of the layout of the island and it's proximity to everything. There is a bridge that connects PI to New Providence (Nassau is the capital city of the Bahamas and only part of the island, there are many communites on the island).
You also might do a search on this site for info on the Bahamas.
One thing you might do is take the fast ferry over to Eleuthera, Spanish Wells or Harbour Island for a bit of site seeing and find out what the out islands are about.
Spanish Wells is beautiful and small enough so you can walk all around and have an out island experience. Interesting History to Spanish Wells. (Side note, I was walking by the Empire State Building here in NYC and noticed a couple having problems reading a map of the city and asked if I could help, the gentleman replied in a Spanish Wells accent that yes that would be great, I was skocked to hear his accent and asked how long they had been in the city from the Bahamas and how was everything on Spanish Wells, and they were shocked that I would know their accent, just goes to show it's a small world.)
Harbour Island would also be a fun day trip, it's small and has a beautiful beach, that will be pretty much deserted, since it is off season. There are a few shops and several good restaurants and you might even think about splitting your trip to stay some on Paradise Island and a few days on Harbour Island.
The ferry over takes about 2 hours and is a beautiful trip.
Hope this helps a bit. Have a great time, May is just around the corner now.

Thanks wantsomesun. The reason why I'm switching hotels is because I want to use the Atlantis facilities and didn't want to spring out the cash for it. Instead, I'm staying at a moderate hotel for a few nights then switching over to the Comfort Suites for the last few nights which will allow me access to the Atlantis facilities. Thanks for your sightseeing suggestions. We're going to try to do as much as we can during this trip to make it worthwhile. Even thought May is around the corner, it seems so far away with my anticipation of the trip.
What about nightlife? Clubs, bars? Anyone?

Stay at the Comfort Suites if you can, you'll get free rein at the Atlantis. I've stayed at the Comfort Suites 3 times and it's just fine. It'll take you a whole day and night to look around the Atlantis, take the ferry to Nassua and shop, and hop on a bus with the locals, the busses start and finish in Nassua, if you wanna hop off somewhere, Ardastra Gardens, Cable beach, just yell 'Bus stop!' and they'll stop and wave one down when it's time to leave. Only costs $1.00, pay when you get off. Tell Crystal and Michael at the Comfort Suites bar Jim from Delaware says Hi, and ask them where to go to eat.

Nassau and Paradise Island - you will like it or not. Richness and peverty is close together. Tamara - I am shure - will not agree with my report I published recently. But visit also www.nassau-paradiseisland.net.tc and check it out what Nassau-Paradise Island can offer. By the way to offer a visit of Adastra Garden that is a joke! I case you go there please let this board know what your impression was. Whereever you go I wish you absolutely nice vacations. Happy New Year 2004!
