My husband and I purchased a stay at the Grand Hotel Regina, Grindelwald, Switzerland, through the LuxuryLink Auction. Everything was wonderful. We liked it so much we have also purchased a package to Germany off the auction for next year. Go for it.

I too visit their site frequently and can't believe some of their deals. I've often wanted to bid but was a little concerned. If I really wanted to check out a company like this, where should I look and what should I look for/ask to confirm they are legit and reputable. I've never done an online auction before.

Ken
perhaps I shouldn't have posted that, I didn't think about worrying other people. My friends had a bad experience, but obviously others haven't. Although a previous poster was suspiscious about this being an advertising ploy. Try contacting directly those who have had positive experiences.

You have to be very carfeful about the dates. What seems like a great deal, upon further inspection, is usually not. I was just about to bid on several auctions only to find out the dates they were available were off-season or times I couldn't go. The bids many times get driven up so high as they are no longer a bargain. I've seen rates on some of the properties higher than the rack rates after the bidding price was raised. There are some good deals. You have to be lucky and read carefully.

Having won 2 bids at Skyauction.com and being satisfied, I am definitely interested in Luxury Link. I too sit in front of the computer and drool over their offers, but have never bid on any because the bidding so high that it's not a good deal anymore. An example is a 5-night package to the Bitter End Yacht Club for next year's low season that just ended last noght. It went for 2,000 (5 nights). That same package was offered this year under AA Vacations Caribbean 30% off special for $1,740. I know because I almost booked it.

Mary ([email protected]), I would like to hear the details of your friend's bad experience. What package did they bid on and what happened?

I have bought two trips on Luxurylink and they are a legit operation. I saved about 30% off the rack rate on both trips. Luxurylink clearly posts the full retail price and all the restrictions for each trip. You just have to bid carefully, just as you would with any other auction.

30% off rack rate is no great shakes. Almost no one (unless they are poor shoppers), ever pays the full retail rate posted on luxurylink at resorts. Lara you were lucky if you got a deal, but as an example, luxurylink has 2 Wyndham resorts at auction now for a higher price than you would pay if you went to their website specials. In fact, the airlines have those 2 hotels packaged with air fare at a lower price than the opening bid.

I agree with the previous post & I have had 2 successful trips with LuxuryLink but that was 2 years ago before so many people knew about it. Seems more & more packages now are not including taxes & service charges so be careful. Too many people don't research the destination first & then in their enthusiasm bid up the price to over what they could get direct. One closed yesterday on an upscale island resort that the final bid was $1000.00 more than the quote I got over the phone! I had to laugh. And I had no time or blackout restrictions!
So there can be deals but beware & check it out first.
