Luxury Link Offers

Has anyone purchased vacations through Luxury Link? What was your experience with them?

Karen Nov 21st, 2001 01:37 PM

Only good things with luxury link! Really positive experiences! Saw the list the morning and can't stop drolling. Some of the properties listed I have not seen discounted anywhere any time before! And some of my all time favorites! Good luck!

My husband and I purchased a stay at the Grand Hotel Regina, Grindelwald, Switzerland, through the LuxuryLink Auction. Everything was wonderful. We liked it so much we have also purchased a package to Germany off the auction for next year. Go for it.

What is the web address?

Cissy Nov 23rd, 2001 11:31 AM

Penney: www.luxurylink.com

smells a bit suspicious to me. Fodors, is this not an advertisement? "what is their web address"- now come on!!!!

Penney Nov 24th, 2001 12:41 PM

Since I travel greatly, I was simply asking for a web address for something that might be of interest to me.

Jen Nov 25th, 2001 12:13 PM

Not an ad - just travelers sharing good tips.

Mary - my sister-in-law and her husband have only used luxurylink.com and even purchased vacations from there for their honeymoon. Never had an issue. They have wonderful places listed.

I too visit their site frequently and can't believe some of their deals. I've often wanted to bid but was a little concerned. If I really wanted to check out a company like this, where should I look and what should I look for/ask to confirm they are legit and reputable. I've never done an online auction before.

Mary Nov 27th, 2001 02:37 PM

don't touch them with a barge pole!! take it from me-if it looks too good to be true , it is! Friends of ours did not have a good experience with them

Ken Nov 28th, 2001 04:54 AM

What happened!! I just bid on a trip!!Help!!!

Cissy Nov 28th, 2001 05:06 AM

Ken: Be sure and keep us posted on how you make out. Interesting to hear both sides of any story.

Mary Nov 28th, 2001 05:10 AM

Ken
perhaps I shouldn't have posted that, I didn't think about worrying other people. My friends had a bad experience, but obviously others haven't. Although a previous poster was suspiscious about this being an advertising ploy. Try contacting directly those who have had positive experiences.

You have to be very carfeful about the dates. What seems like a great deal, upon further inspection, is usually not. I was just about to bid on several auctions only to find out the dates they were available were off-season or times I couldn't go. The bids many times get driven up so high as they are no longer a bargain. I've seen rates on some of the properties higher than the rack rates after the bidding price was raised. There are some good deals. You have to be lucky and read carefully.

I work for a resort that has had several guest come here thru the auction at LuxuryLink. Believe me, they are a reputable company, and do have some great deals.

Mariarosa Nov 28th, 2001 05:57 AM

Having won 2 bids at Skyauction.com and being satisfied, I am definitely interested in Luxury Link. I too sit in front of the computer and drool over their offers, but have never bid on any because the bidding so high that it's not a good deal anymore. An example is a 5-night package to the Bitter End Yacht Club for next year's low season that just ended last noght. It went for 2,000 (5 nights). That same package was offered this year under AA Vacations Caribbean 30% off special for $1,740. I know because I almost booked it.

Mary ([email protected]), I would like to hear the details of your friend's bad experience. What package did they bid on and what happened?

Lara Nov 28th, 2001 08:14 AM

I have bought two trips on Luxurylink and they are a legit operation. I saved about 30% off the rack rate on both trips. Luxurylink clearly posts the full retail price and all the restrictions for each trip. You just have to bid carefully, just as you would with any other auction.

xxx Nov 28th, 2001 09:07 AM

30% off rack rate is no great shakes. Almost no one (unless they are poor shoppers), ever pays the full retail rate posted on luxurylink at resorts. Lara you were lucky if you got a deal, but as an example, luxurylink has 2 Wyndham resorts at auction now for a higher price than you would pay if you went to their website specials. In fact, the airlines have those 2 hotels packaged with air fare at a lower price than the opening bid.

Sally Nov 28th, 2001 10:49 AM

I agree with the previous post & I have had 2 successful trips with LuxuryLink but that was 2 years ago before so many people knew about it. Seems more & more packages now are not including taxes & service charges so be careful. Too many people don't research the destination first & then in their enthusiasm bid up the price to over what they could get direct. One closed yesterday on an upscale island resort that the final bid was $1000.00 more than the quote I got over the phone! I had to laugh. And I had no time or blackout restrictions!
So there can be deals but beware & check it out first.

Leslie, I am interested to hear how it works with Luxury Link. I work for a country inn in Vermont and Luxury Link is after us to join. Please e-mail me directly if you have the time and do not mind sharing your experience dealing with them.
