When stopping in Nassau on our cruise this Feb., we thought we'd take our senior parents to Atlantis for lunch and the casino. I'd like suggestions for which restaurant to have lunch.

I would recommend either the Lagoon Bar and Grill which is outside or the Great Hall of Waters, which is inside but has a great view of the "aquarium". There is also very easy access to The Dig,from the Great hall - which you must walk thru its a must see. You are also not far from the casino (actually nothing is too far from the Casino as it is right in the middle of Atlantis!) The Lagoon Bar and Grill is outdoor dining and has lots of people from the beach or pools, very, very casual most are in bathing suits. There is a huge outdoor bar - its under the dome and there is easy access to the "tube" (what I call it) you walk downstairs and view the fish in the lagoon thru a glass tunnel. Those would be my 2 recommendations, and I lean more to the Great Hall because it is like being outside and the view is inceredible, they don't call it the Great Hall for nothing!

Go to www.atlantis.com and click on casual dining, you will see the pictures and menus (I think) as there are more to choose from.

Great Hall of Waters is a good choice, you may have to make reservations ahead of time for lunch.

The OUTDOOR restaurants are not accessible to non-guests, same goes for the DIGS. You can purchase a viewing pass to the DIGS for $25 pp. Not worth it. This pass does NOT include access to the outdoor property.

Check out the aquarium at the Great Hall, it's pretty much the same throughout the DIGS.

Check with your cruiseship to see if they have a tour which includes access to the property. Most are guided tours and don't leave time for a nice lunch.

Atlantis is neither a resort, nor a hotel. It is a giant theme park. The comment about the buffet being a rip-off is only the half truth. The entire place is one huge rip-off.

We stayed last April at Atlantis. Personally, the food at Most of the restaurants was Awful. Expensive and definitely not the calibre of food we expected ,even at the upscale places. Save your money and eat on the ship.

I think Atlantis is well worth seeing but the food is expensive & mediocre. You could eat @ Dune @ the Ocean Club which nearby. It's very expensive but very good.

$9 HAMBURGER, $6 ICE CREAM CONE AND SO ON AND SO FORTH, EXPENSIVE AND MEDIOCRE AT BEST. IT'S A GREAT PLACE TO SEE FOR THE STRUCTURES AND AQUARIUMS, BUT THAT'S IT.

Geeze, the poster just wanted to know about a lunch spot, what's with all the "shouting" and carrying on. They are wanting to see Atlantis for an Afternoon....what's the big deal? If I was on a cruise, I would want to see it for an afternoon too.
An afternoon in Atlantis is not the worst thing that can happen to anyone, actually I think it is very nice place to take senior parents to for lunch and casino action.

JM you will not be disappointed, it is a beautiful place to see. The casino is really magnificent..and there are nice bars to sit and have cocktails too. I still think the best place for lunch would be the Great Hall. You will get to see the fish and sit in a beautiful setting not far from the casino.


By the way, I don't know where you live but a hamburger costs more than $9.00 - McDonalds does not count.

Mmmn. Alantis is a pretty place in the afternoon but I can only recall one place worth eating at. It was inside and had a huge aquarium right behind it and walkways in front.

I made the mistake of doing one of the buffets, (stay away bad food, expensive). I'd go for the first choice sorry I don't recall the name. I just remember being there and joining the junkanoo parade that came down the corridor.

Also if your touring thru Atlantis, walk beach side and slide next door to the Sheraton. They have a very casual outdoor lunch area that just might do, after taking in a quick tour of Atlantis and if you want to return & see stuff you missed you still can.

No one is disputing that it is a great place to see, but he specifically asked for a lunch recommendation and I think he should know as the majority of us have said, the food is awful, so he should not expect the restaurant food to hold up to the price he is going to pay as he will more than likely be dissappointed.Furthermore I think we should be allowed to provide our opinions without someone trying to be parent.

Back in the days of parachute pants, volcanic hairdos and Culture Club, I had a great meal in Nassau at a place called Graycliff, which was in an old house. Expensive? Yes, but worth it. Is it still there? I don't know but surely someone does. You could eat there first, then head to the Atlantis for some gambling and free drinks (they DO give their gamblers free drinks in the casino, right?)

Thank you all for your advice. My dad has difficulty walking, so excursions and tours are out..especially if it's too hot. The folks would enjoy a couple of hours at a casino, and lunch. That's why I thought the Atlantis idea was a good one, unless someone has a better suggestion. We'll stick to the Atlas Bar & Grill, or the Great Hall of Waters - they are supposed to offer light meals at reasonable (relative, I know) cost. The main idea here is to take them off the ship for a few enjoyable hours that won't make too many demands on them from a physical standpoint.

Although I usually suggest that you would take the ferry boat to Paradise Island (Atlantis), in your case, I'd take a cab.
Getting on and off the boat may prove difficult, as well as the long haul to Atlantis from the dock.

Just an added thought. Depending on your travel date, you may still hit the off season, which could mean that most indoor Atlantis restaurants are closed. (I was there last week, none were open for lunch)
If that's the case, there is a very nice restaurant just across the street from Atlantis, Anthony's Caribbean Grill. Keep it in mind.

I know there are a lot of people who criticize Atlantis, but we have enjoyed our stays there. Food is expensive at all resorts. We have had some wonderful meals at the Atlantis. I think your parents would enjoy the Great Hall of Waters. They can enjoy the aquariums as the dine.

I've hooked up with a private tour operator for a drive around St. Thomas, and a bit of shopping downtown. Now I justg have to figure out what to do in San Juan.
