Looking for a value vacation

We have already taken this year's "big trip", but we've managed to come up with five days off in mid-late August, and would like a beach trip to a site a little more exciting than Panama City, Fl, or Myrtle Beach, N.C.(We live in Atlanta)

We took a cruise a number of years ago that included stops at Freeport and Nassau. We decided that next time we wanted a beach/island vacation, we'd skip the cruise.

All that said, can you Caribbean experts suggest some possibilities for 4 or 5 days on a beach, with a pool, and air conditioning. A few other sights/or shopping would be nice but not essential. This is mainly to be a swim/sun/eat/drink/sleep vacation.

I usually read the Europe board, and I know several ways to take a bargain European trip, but I am not familiar with the islands. Help please!

If anyone can offer ideas on sources to purchase air/land value packages for August to an island location, I would appreciate some input.

You could most likely find one at a good price at: http://www.goclassy.com

I have not used them yet, but will next time. They beat our local Travel Agent on price by a few hundered, but it was too late by then.....

From what I can tell, they are specialists in the exact area you are looking.

Cancun or Playa del Carmen would be the best places to search for "good value".

ezron's post made me think about the fact that I have been hearing good things about the resorts in the Dominican Republic, speaking of value....might try www.debbiesdominicantravel.com

I have to agree for value and prices DR has the some great prices. You can check resort reviews on debbiesdominican.com try applevacations.com for some package deals for your time frame. One must be careful of the weather during this time. Aruba would put you out of some of that concern. (huricanes season.)
