Little Caneel Beach

Staying at Caneel for 6 days with 1/ year old @ Little Caneel Beachfront units. Any feedback regarding this beach or the units (which number to request?)? Are these on the beach and do they have a seating/patio area? Also, has anyone actually used Caneel pool?

We like those units a lot. They have more privacy than any of the other accommodations at Caneel. They're not directly on the beach-- abt a 2 or 3 minute walk. We like the views-- through lots of tropical flowers and shrubs out to the very-near water. They have great patios-- most private of all. All the units are about the same, though some are a slightly farther walk to the beach, the restaurant, etc i.e. 4-5 minutes instead of 1,2,3. have never used the pool: Caribbean too delicious.

Poss,

Are you sure those are beachfront units at Little Caneel and not oceanview, actually I like the fact they have more privacy and great patios? Wondering though if they are not on the beach should I save money and get the oceanview which must be further away from the beach? How is the actual beach as well? Thanks for advice.

The units I was describing really are beachfront, not just beach view. There are a few steps off the patio that go down to the beach. choice of oceanview or front probably should depend on how much you value the privacy. There's a walkway that goes from the restaurant area over to the Little Caneel area. (3-4 min walk) The ocean view rooms are a short climb up from that pathway, the beach rooms are a few steps down. On your balcony on the "view" rooms, people can see you when they're on the path. The balconies on the beachfront rooms are totally private (because of the shrubbery and bec there's no path in front of them). The LC beach really is very small, but it's contiguous to the main beach which is very nice. Nicest of all are Scott's and Hawksnest-- but I don't think children are allowed on those beaches. The whole place is quite beautiful.

This really helps, for $75 more I think I'll do the beachfront rooms versus ocean view. We're going to be out on the patio sipping wine a fair amount. Any advice on meal plan? I'm thinking bfast & dinner plan, we'll want to go into Cruz Bay w/child at least a few times.

If you go to caneelbay.com/travel details/resot map - it shows the Little Caneel Beach rooms #5 through #12 as ocean front. They sit up high on a hill and have large patios with long staircases going down directly to the beach.(something to consider with 1 yr old). Beach is small. You also have to climb steps going up to them from all public areas. Can't coment on what rooms look like. The pool is not all that attractive. Not many people use it.

Don't let the pool descriptions scare you. It is fine, just not special. Your wife will love the overall atmosphere of high class luxury. She won't even notice the fact that you might have to walk a few more yards to the beach. This place is so special, you cannot loose! This place has been famous for decades with the rich and famous. Many big politicians and movie stars have stayed there. One of the most notable recent guests being Harrison Ford (by the way, he was turned away at Morgan's Mango because they were filled). In short, you'll have a great time. The resort is not so large that you'll be at a significant disadvantage no matter which unit you'll stay in.

Trying to finalize my room selection for Caneel Bay for travel w/toddler. Criteria are walk out to the beach & privacy, close to main bar, pool.
Would you go beachfront at Little Caneel, Caneel Beach, Hawksnest which beach would you choose? Thanks

I'm not sure any of the units include all the criteria you've chosen. But I would say proximity to the bar/pool is least important. By the way, I thought it rather odd a poster said children are not allowed on some of the beaches. That's wrong. All beaches are public and if you can get to it, you are allowed. There may be some beaches not especially recommended for kids, but it certainly isn't illegal. Anyway, I would choose the beachfront units if you think that's where you'll spend most of your time.

Caneel Beach - closest to main bar/restaurant and pool, least for privacy.
