Just got back from St. John/St. Thomas

Well my husband and I just got back from our vacation and I am soo glad we choose St. John as our destination. We have travelled extensively and the combination St. John and St. Thomas met our expectations and more!
Any questions about restaurants, excursions, getting around, beaches, shopping, etc. please feel free to contact me.

Oh, please give us a more detailed trip report! Would love to know what you had the best and not so best experiences with.

Did you snorkel on SJ? If so, where were the locations and how was it? Also, what are some "must things to do" on SJ? Thanks, Robert

Did you stay in a villa in St John? If so, which one and did it meet your expectations? Where did you stay in St Thomas?

Robert

Please don't tell me that you, of all people, has never snorkeled on St. John? That's like the Pope asking about Rome.

Good experiences:
The Westin was amazing! We stayed in one of the 3 bedroom villas. It was beautiful and had a private pool. If you are looking for a view of the ocean, I would stay in one of the 1 or 2 bedroom villas #'s 33/34 (Very top). Yes the Westin met our expectations! I love great service and a beautiful pool and landscaping and it had everything.
We did snorkel. We snorkeled at Trunk, Cinnamon, and Little Cinnamon beaches. We also snorkeled at the bathes.
Some must do's: Restaurants: Zozo's (breathtaking views), Asolare (breathtaking views), Morgan Mango (Tuesday - live music and lobster), The Balcony (Quaint and nice view), Rhum Lines (Adorable indoor/ourdoor eating, great food), Woody's (Happenin little bar in the center of town, and The Equator at Caneel Bay (Breathtaking view)Lime Inn (Nice, Central in town, great food, and amazing brownie sundae
Just a little sidenote...I think The Westin is more easily accessible than Caneel Bay and I don't want to make anyone mad, but a little nicer too!
One excursion we did that we would recommend to everyone was "Magic Moments". It was an all day trip on a 45ft yacht that took you snorkeling, to private beaches, and the British Virgin Islands. Also included drinks, breakfast, lunch, and a snack...They took us to one British Island where there anchored and we swam up to a bar called "Soggy Dollar". It's called Soggy Dollar because the only way to the island is by boat and when you get to the bar all your dollars are soggy. You order a drink and the bar tender yells out soggy dollar and hangs your money on a line to dry behind the bar This was what I always picture the caribbean to be like - hamocks, music playing, and people just relaxing...AMAZING TRIP!!!
You do not need a car on St. John...it is a waste of money and it is hard to find a parking space downtown at night. The taxi's are everywhere and only cost $2. Totally worth it. The people are extremely friendly in St. John so you don't have to worry about that. I would rent a car for one or two days to go to some of the great beaches St. John has. They are really amazing. Like I said, my husband and I have travelled extensively and these beaches were truly breathtaking.
Oh...definately use the Westin Ferry. It makes the trip back and forth to the airport so much easier. However, if you want to go over to St. Thomas to shop 1 or 2 days just go down to Cruz Bay and go on their ferry because it only takes 15 minutes from there whereas the Westin Ferry goes past the shopping area of St. Thomas to dock at the Crowne Bay Marina and then you have to back track into town about 7 minute taxi ride. Not a big deal but you shave off about 20 minutes on the ferry ride and a 7 minute taxi ride for $5.
That is all I can think of...anymore specific questions please keep the questions coming!

kcameron, thanks for your happy report on St. John. First report on the Westin's villas I've seen. I love the Westin too for its convenience. Its beach is not so great but serviceable. Did you swim around the little island off of Cinnamon Bay? I highly recommend that for the more confident swimmers. It is a great snorkeling experience. Haulover Bay North is also excellent for snorkeling. The island with the Soggy Dollar Bar is Jost Van Dyke, BVI. Another reason why I love the Virgin Islands, you can get to so many different islands very easily.
