Jungle, Waterfalls, & Bugs
My new husband and I are looking for a quick three day getaway.
I am allergic to bug bites so any place with bugs are off the list, but we both would love to hike in the jungle and swim in a secluded pool under a high waterfall with only the monkeys to spy on us.
An evening under the stars type restaurant would be a plus+++ (!)
One of my wedding gifts was a sheer little rayon cocktail dress and I would like to wear it and not feel overdressed.
All my bridesmaids told me I should check out Sandals.
Can anyone make my mind up for me? Help!!

oh no not you again. Everyplace has bugs sweetie, there is no jungle in the caribbean. Why don't you go to south america and cruise down the Amazon, since that's where you will find a jungle , waterfalls and monkeys. Maybe you'll meet up with a bug or a snake. Hopefully you and your ugly dress will never return!

Muffin,
Well sweetheart, let me clue you in on something. Where there is jungle, there are bugs. You want to "hike in the jungle" with no bugs??? What are you smoking? Bugs are a reality on every single Caribbean island That's just the way it is. If you and this post are for real, I would suggest you stick to the drier more arid islands, like Aruba where mosquitos and noseeums are LESS of a problem. Less not non-existant. If you think you are going to find a bug free jungle thick with monkeys, then your name is appropriate because your head is stuffed with muffins.
St Maarten might be another possibility but going to any island in the Caribbean you are going to have to deal with the possibility of bug bites. Buy some bug spray with a high percentage of Deet and get a prescription for .05% Diprolene lotion in case you do get bitten.

The only Caribbean island I am aware of that has monkeys is St. Kitts, which also has rain forest, but I'm not sure about the secluded waterfall. St. Lucia, Dominica and Grenada are some other very lush islands with waterfalls and rain forest, but no monkeys there. Dominica is largely undeveloped with more rustic accomodations. None of these would really be appropriate for a 3-day get-away, as they are far and difficult to get to. For something closer to home you might try the eastern part of Jamaica (i.e. Blue mountains and Port Antonio area) which is very lush and has waterfalls. Puerto Rico also has the El Yunque national rain forest. I don't know that you'd be able to find any four star restaurants in these areas though.

The previous posters are correct about bugs. If you want a lush, rain forest area you will have to put up with them--the two just go together. If avoiding bugs is the greater priority you'll need to find a more arid island like Aruba or Curacao (but these aren't close unless you live in South America).
