Hyatt - worth the $$ ???

We are looking for info on the Hyatt Regency Grand Cayman. Is it worth the $$$ or should we consider a condo.

Patti,
Is the Hyatt worth the money? NO, NO, NO!!! Go Condo!! Unless you dish out major money for their beach front suites, your not even on the beach at the Hyatt. I've been going to Grand Cayman for years, and the only way to go is a condo. You'll end up spending less, you'll have a lot more room in a condo, and you can be right on gorgeous Seven Mile Beach!!

Check out www.caymanvacations.com for condo info, prices, locations etc. The further north you go on 7MB the quieter and less crowded it is. Better beach area also. There's also a map on that web site that shows where the condos are. Food on GC is very expensive, and having a condo helps with not having to go out for breakfast, lunch and drinks. Also, many of the condos, you just walk out your door and your on the beach. The Hyatt's beach can become very crowded with wall to wall lounge chairs.

This is just my opinion, but you can't go wrong with a condo. You won't get hotel services and pampering with a condo, but you'll feel like you've got your own apartment on the beach. If you have anymore questions, please feel free.
Sandy

Our choice in Grand Cayman is the Westin on 7 mile beach. Beautiful & Whaler's Village is within walking distance. Vince
Just like Aruba, GC has no true luxury hotels.
The Westin most definitely does not fit the "luxury" profile (you can tell even by looking at the room photos on their website).
Condos are the way to go on GC.
I wholeheartedly second the vote for the Westin. My husband and I went there for our honeymoon in November and have already booked a return trip for our first anniversary. We had a fabulous time. The beach there is just beautiful, and the staff really pampered us. We didn't want for a thing while we were there. We did walk up to the Hyatt, and didn't like it at all. The beach was too crowded, and half of the rooms were across the street. Hope this helps. Take care.

Although the Westin usually gets the highest marks for hotels on GC, it isn't hard to find the negatives about this property. If you put a half-hearted effort into finding reviews for the Westin, you'll find quite a mixed bag. Condos have always been the way to go on GC.

Let's face facts: the Westin is the best resort on GC.
But on a scale of 1-10 for all Caribbean resorts it rates about a 7.
It's not among the top 35 or so resorts in the Caribbean.
GC is just plain resort-poor.
That's why people recommend condos there.

Hyatt is so crowded on the beach. Most of the rooms are acrossed the street from the beach. The Westin is the best hotel to stay at, but The Avalon Condo blows it away!!!!!
