Honeymoon in Bermuda in Aug
We are getting married in August and are considering Bermuda. We are in our early 40's - we are looking for sun, nice beaches/water, spa, golf, good night life, great food, things to see and do, luxurious accommodations. I have read many reviews on the various resorts. Have all the hotels completed their renovations due to hurricane damage? What are your best picks - The Reefs, Elbow Beach, Pompano Beach, Fairmont Southampton, Wyndam? Any advice re rooms - is it worth it to go deluxe?

For a honeymoon, I would recommend the Reefs. It is a beautiful small hotel located on a hillside with a private beach. The people there treat you like family. The food is excellent. This is a small hotel and does not offer golf or spa, but that is a short distance away. You will have to dress nice for dinner here (not fancy, just nice). There is afternoon tea served. There was no television in our room, but some of the more expensive suite type rooms will have a tv. The Princess and Elbow beach are more full service hotels with all of the amenities. The Elbow beach is on a great beach and the Princess is on a hill that needs to shuttle you down to their beach. The Wyndam is redoing an older hotel and will probably have more families. The Reefs is a more adult hotel. My parents went on their honeymoon to the Reefs almost 50 years ago and this is the one place my mom who hates to fly jumps on a plane to go to. My brother who is married about 10 years also went to the Reefs for his honeymoon. Bermuda is quiet at night, but the Reefs, Princess and Wyndam are all together. We went to the Princess and a restaurant called King Henry the 8ths for a piano/comedian act. Both places had some nightly entertainment. The Reefs has nightly entertainment, but it is low-key.
Enjoy! Bermuda is a wonderful island.

one more thing. I have stayed at the Reefs, Princess, and the old Sonesta(Wyndam). I have sat on the Beach at Elbow. My choice would be to go to the Reefs again. But the Princess and elbow are nice hotels too. Never saw Pompano.

I second the recommendation of the Reefs, but also suggest you consider Cambridge Beaches and Ariel Sands, both of which offer lovely accomodations and an on site spa. My advice would be to go Deluxe, this is one time in your life to splurge and make for a very memorable trip. Best wishes to both of you.

Thanks for the suggestions. We have narrowed it down to Reefs and Pompano Beach. Does anyone else have any comments that would help us decide? Perhaps by comparing some of these aspects would help us - food, Pool, nightlife, rooms, views, proximity to things to see and do.
Thanks Denise

The Reefs and Pompano are always tops as they are both smaller resorts on very nice locations with excellent food and service. The Reefs is more sophisticated and Pompano is more laid back and casual. We are in our early 40's as well and have been going to Bermuda since our 20's and feel that after touring and staying at a handful of resorts that Pompano is more for us. We also prefer their location - they're on a very calm bay which we prefer for swimming. It's crystal-clear and waist-deep for a few hundred yards out. Also enjoy their entertainment at night - always a mix. The rooms have all been renovated and we enjoy both the superior and deluxe. We love the views from the superior rooms - they are located higher up. The deluxe though are handy, as they're located next to the water. The fitness room is the only one I will every work out in when I'm away - it feels like you're almost right in the water. For things to see and do, go to sightseeing on bermuda.com - our favourite thing to do is getting out on a scooter (you can get a double-seater) and stopping at our favourite spots for walking along the beaches and trails. You can easily rent one from Oleander Cycles which is next door to Pompano. Also love taking the ferry to different parts of the island (and you can take your scooter on for just a few dollars). Back to Pompano, they also have a great spa and golf on-site. Congrats on your wedding! Bermuda is where we went for our honeymoon and we always can't wait to return.
