Honeymoon Help
Hi All,
We are a young 30s couple looking for an incredible Carribean experience for our honeymoon. We are currently looking at Little Dix Bay, Peter Island, Palm Island Resort, Caneel Bay and Curtain Bluff. Any thoughts on recommendations on what the best honeymoon spot would be? We are looking for a place that is light on children and has great relaxing setting as well as the opportunity to do activities. Please let us know your thoughts. We are planning our honeymoon for May.
THANK YOU!!!

Any of those would be excellent choices. Curtain Bluff tends to draw an older crowd, but I'm sure there will also be some honeymooners.
You might add Jumby Bay, Petit St. Vincent, The Coral Reef Club on Barbados, and Parrot Cay to your list of possibles. If you can afford the nightly rates, you might also want to consider Jade Mountain at Anse Chastanet on St. Lucia, one of the most unique and luxurious properties in the Caribbean.
Just remember that if you go to one of the private islands like Palm or Petit St. Vincent, you'll have fewer opportunities to explore off-island (but the Tobago Cays are said to be truly spectactular). Peter Island is more accessible than most private islands, so it's less of a problem there.
I'm going to Petit St. Vincent next month, so I'll post a trip report but it's not everyone's cup of tea because of no a/c and no pool. But private islands offer the ultimate in seclusion for a honeymoon.

Do you know the Caribbean at all? If so, which resorts have you especially enjoyed? which not so much?
What kinds of activities do you most enjoy? (e.g. how impt are water sports-- and what kinds?) What sorts of activities are less important to you? How important is the size of the room and other aspects of the room or suite? (e.g. is t.v. important?) Which is more important-- luxurious, spacious room and bathroom, or gorgeous beach and grounds? (if you had to choose)
I think if you specify some druthers and also note things that don't awfully much matter, you'll get lots of good in-put.
May should be a lovely time to be in the Caribbean-- congrats!

Just a side note, but hoping you'll enjoy PSV much more than we did - actually choose resorts for no a/c (harder to find non-hermatically sealed spots) and never turn on tv if it's there but your being with Fodor's will probably help. The units are spacious (at least the two we were in since we requested a switch from one very non-descript location near nothing especially beach - to one on the beach - neither compared to #17 with its own private beach) and very comfortable. It is very private other than at dinner or at the bar before. Loved the early am coffee service - before b'fast. Line staff were friendly, welcoming but the flag/cart system left lots to be desired. I was thrilled when we finally got back to Barbados and were able to have hot wonderful meals - dinners were very disappointing to awful (even by Carib standards) altho it was nice to have a nice lunch delivered to the beach and b'fast delivered to your cottage - actually can have all your meals delivered. A few "huts" on the beach and staff said to get their early - which for us involved a flag and a cart but not a problem for us because we are very early risers but they did say their priority was serving b'fasts so maybe we'd wait - and wait we did. Big disappointment was the boat (don't remember the name) for the Tobago Cays was booked up and they didn't have any alternatives to offer nor were they were interested in finding one. It's wonderful and a fun day since we went at a different time on another trip.
Maybe it was the hype and my unrealstic expecations for that price. We still enjoyed but certainly goes near top of the list of not living up to laurels others give it. And they are one of the few places that still send out holiday cards each year!
Have fun! A vacation is what you make it - and we made the best of it but still joke about those flags and carts - and having to jump into the back of a maintance one which I stopped with all the supplies when none showed up and we'd miss lunch/grill at the beach despite the flag and got the tail end of anything left to eat!

guess I got off track, sorry.
you might want to look at scubamom.com for some good insights into PIR but any of the choices you mention are good. The beachfront rooms are just lovely and footsteps from the sand and water on Deadman's. It really is one of my favorites in the BVI. Little Dix is very family friendly so I might be concerned about children on holiday. Caneel doesn't have the "luxurious" accomodations that you'll find at other spots - hot tubs, jacuzzis, etc but you'll find 7 wonderful beaches, some with accomodations directly on them, and even more on St. John with the National Park. I would definitely add Jumby Bay to the list but it doesn't have the snorkeling and diving that the USVI/BVI has nor the opportunity to explore other islands on easy daytrips. I agree that Curtain Bluff is a bit older but think that they are promoting baby- and wedding-moons more now but if you are tennis players, it's wonderful. (They were promoting a week with Andre Soltner - how tempting!) Not been to Palm Island but is on the list since meeting the manager on a plane and he was an excellent ambassador.
Did you look at Biras Creek on Virgin Gorda as an alternate to LDB?

Doug: Looking forward to your PSV reporter.
LelaHB: How long is your honeymoon? By activities, do you mean swimming/snorkeling or sightseeing, etc.. ?
Having been to Peter Island, I don't think I could do a week or more there. We did a long weekend. Loved it but we'd need to be able to do more than what's available on such a small island.
If your honeymoon is over a week, you can always split it between 2 islands.
Good luck.

Thank you all for your responses. We are just looking for a nice place to relax and be on our honeymoon. As far as activities, we would love to swim, snorkel and maybe kayak. We would love to figure out a place that has ultimate luxury, service and of course romance. Any other advice is greatly appreciated and hope you are having a great night!

I have been to Caneel, Bay, Little Dix and Jumby Bay.
I love Caneel and Little Dix equally. Both have gorgeous grounds, beautiful beach(es), Caneel 7, Little Dix 1/2 mile crescent, and offer excellent the water activities that you enjoy, and have three excellent restaurants. At no additional charge, Little Dix will wisk you away to other Virgin Gorda's private beaches. Both are very romantic settings in beautifully landscaped flowering gardens, with many hiking trails. While Caneel's rooms have been recently updated and are nicely appointed,Littlew Dix rooms are prettier. That being said, it is hard to beat Caneel's 7 private beaches.
Jumby Bay has beautiful room, but the snorkeling is sparce. Since it shares the island with a development, I felt that it did not offer the 'islandy' feel of the other two,
If you do not mind the move, you can do both Caneel and Little Dix and use their private ferry to shuttle you there.
Best wishes for an incredible honeymoon.
