Honeymoon- Cruise or Island Stay

We're getting married next year and we're trying to figure out our honeymoon plans. Would it be more romantic to stay a week on the island or take a week long cruise. Yet, we want to keep our costs low. So, what's the least expensive

I would think an island would be more romantic. A cruise ship has small accomadations and you will be around many others when out of the cabin. It will be a bit of a pain preparing for your excursions and ensuring that you are always back in time.

Yes, check into a nice island spot. The prices vary greatly and each island is a bit different from another.

Congrads and good luck.
Contact a travel agent. The sooner you begin to plan the cheaper it may be. Have her check prices in the time of year you will be going, seasons vary. I would say much more romantic on an island and I reccomend Nassau, The Bahamas. Very resonable charter flights and AI deals. Amazing people, food and beaches. You will love it.
(also, if you arent real picky about the caribbean and looking to keep cost low, dont rule out mexico. Cancun and Cozumel, the outskirts of downtown, very romantic!) Congrats and Have fun!

I would think that for a romantic atmosphere, a resort would be far better. Don't get me wrong - we love cruising but we find it is best for seeking islands we have not been too, more active ventures, more touring, etc.... I do not find cruises relaxing and pampering. Great for seeing alot but we came back tired! It is exciting though to see a different island each day as they vary so much. But tours are expensive, soda's and drinks are expensive, lines to get on and off the ship are rather a pain, cabins are so tiny! Service and food is excellent however.

We find resorts to move at a much slower pace - your own! No feeling to have to see this or that, and depending on how much you eat, drink and plan on using included facilites and activites, it can be a very affordable way to go.

You don't say when your honeymoon will take place? Destinations may depend on the season, regarding weather and costs. My personal opinion is you get quite a bang for your buck in cruising. You do get all your meals, entertainement, and as far as other costs are concerned (drinks, alcohol) is up to you. You will pay for these costs at a resort as well. My husband and I find we spend the same amount give or take, no matter what we plan to do or how we plan. Still comes out about the same. So all and all it depends on your personal preference. There are some good rates on cruises these days. You can see many Islands, but as some say it will be perhaps more hectic of a schedule. Whether the wedding is small or large they can be stressful and a week of relaxation can be needed at that time. Standing in lines to get on and off of a ship could be aggravating at the least. A decision you must weigh out the pros and the cons to both. For resorts, the most economical is Mexico, PDC area, or you may look into Punta Cana in the DR. Those 2 would be the most cost effective. Congratulations.

Sunshyn - go with the resort for sure. It's your honeymoon, you need something romantic.

Ditto for what other posters said, try Mexico. Beautiful beaches, great resorts and not as expensive as many other caribbean destinations.

Always keep in mind, this is your honeymoon. It doesn't matter if you go an hour away from you live and sleep in a tent. It is about being with the one you love. If you keep that in mind you will have a great time no matter what you choose to do. Congrats and enjoy your vacation!
