Club Med Paradise Island or Cruise?
We are deciding on a honeymoon destination. We have never been to the Caribbean before. Can anyone offer their opinion between going to an all-inclusive Club Med Paradise Island or going on an Eastern Caribbean Cruise? Any comments, pros and cons, are appreciated.

I think this depends upon the the type of wedding you are having. I know after my wedding all I wanted was some relaxation. Wedding planning can be stressful and when that big day is over, it is nice to relax. In my opinion cruises seem to be more active, different ports nearly everyday. A AI would include more quiet times I would think. Not many decisions to have to make in an AI. Depends on your likes and dislikes. I would also consider the time of year the honeymoon will occur as a factor in my decision.

The Club Med Paradise Island didn't look much to me like paradise from the outside.
As for being quiet and relaxed, there are activities coordinators at CM whose job it is to keep people active and involved. The resorts strives to have an active, social environment.
Can't make comments about a cruise without more info. Like asking where the best place is to have a wedding. It totally depends on the specific cruise. There's everything from super luxury to bargain basement, active and touristy to quiet. Would have to know your budget and desires.

Thanks for the replies. To be more specific, our honeymoon will be in the middle of September. I know it is hurricane season, but we are willing to take the risk of unfavourable weather. The cruise that we are interested in is RCCL's Explorer of the Seas (San Juan, St. Maarten, St. Thomas, Nassau). Any addition comments are appreciated. Thank you.

With this info provided, Sept is risky for a cruise. They seem to offer attractive prices that time frame for that reason. If going to the Caribbean is what you would like look into the island of Aruba. If finances are limited, then a cruise at that time and good weather would prove to be an economical choice. My honeymoon was also in Sept. I opted for Disneyland/cruise combo. We had a great time, but then it is your honeymoon anyplace is generally nice. I think if you could provide info on your budget people could be more helpful. Good luck.

Thanks for your input, Diann. Right now, the cruise and the club med resort will cost about the same price ($3000 for 2 people), after all taxes, tips, excursions. Our budget only allows for us to go a few hundred dollars beyond that amount.

Club Med Paradise Island may not look like much from the harbour, but it's on a gorgeous beach and stunning old world property. The rooms are ordinary, but you get over it quickly. The food is award winning and you can be as active or passive as you like (I was a GO there for a time). Atlantis is a 10 min walk to the casinos.
If you want commercial, sterile and glitzy environment, then I'd go for the cruise. If you want a more natural and romantic vacation, I'd head to Club Med.

I was at ClubMed Paradise Island in Aug 2001 and the grounds are absolutely beautiful. It is quiet, romantic, the pool is amazing and the rooms are nice. For the money, this is a wonderful trip. Good Luck!

Well 3K isn't bad to work with, not at all. There are some people on this site that seem to like Sandals in Anitgua and rave about it, I think you could do that on that amount. There are also some lovely AI in Mexico, Playda Del Carmen are which would well fit into your budget. Just do some exloring, on the web, talk it over with your significant other and I am sure you will come up with the right choice for the 2 of you.
