My favorite Anguilla hotel is CuisinArt. I've been going there for the last 5 years on vacation and I live in Puerto Rico! The hotel has some of the loveliest beaches in Anguilla. It also has a cafe in front of the pool where you can have anything from a casual lunch to a heavier dinner. Contrary to some comments, my dining experience in Anguilla has not been great. St. Martin's French side has excellent restaurants. Don't fear flying directly into Anguilla. American Airlines uses ATR 72 for flights to the Caribbean (departing from San Juan). This plane accommodates more than 60 passengers and their luggage. I don't pack light and always carry a big suitcase. Flying into St. Martin will be a hassle. You have to catch a cab to take you to the French side and then hop the ferry to Anguilla (if I remember correctly, it only operates until 5pm). Much easier to fly into Anguilla.

alund, really interesting to read your post and I thank you. It is good to know that having a not so great dinning experience is also possible in Anguilla!!
I think I will fly directly into Anguilla, since the air fare for me does not change whether I fly to St Martin or Anguilla.
Cuisinart must be great, I've seen some pictures. It's slightly out of my budget this time.

Hi leo_arg,

You wrote that you are considering Frangipani vs Serenity. I've heard uneven things about the latter. It may disappoint you. Frangipani is wonderful, but expensive. The best review I could find you it was this detailed review...

http://www.anguilla-beaches.com/fran...la-resort.html

Before you had it narrowed down to the above two, you had written: "Looking for: nicely decorated rooms, comfortable, Tv, Great Bathrrom/shower. (Luxury isn't a must if others provided)."

Carimar. Hands down. They actually even renovated their bathrooms, just for you. They are top-notch. For $600 per night (and that is for the closest 2 bedroom unit to the oceanfront! -- less if you only need 1 bedroom or take a unit further back or are off-season), Carimar is the hands-down value leader on the island.

Carimar has no restaurant, but there are so many great restaurants on Meads Bay that you can walk to, you don't need one in the hotel (Straw Hat, Jacala, Blanchard's, etc.). Only a short drive to a bunch more, including B&D's great weekend BBQ.

I've stayed at both (Frangipani and Carimar), as well as at CuisinArt. Frangipani are CuisinArt are luxury hotels. Great stays, but they blow a hole in the budget. If money doesn't matter, it's a toss-up. But I get the feeling that money matters.

So --> Carimar. You won't come back and complain, I promise, not based on what you wrote. It is unbelievable what you get, right on a gorgeous beach, for that little money.

To summarize your questions:

1) Fly direct to SXM, ferry across.

2) Carry-on is all you'll ever need.

3) Carimar (you can rent a car from them once you check in -- they use Island Harbor).

That's the beginning of an efficient and wonderful stay in Anguilla.

Whatever you choose, you'll have fun, I'm sure.
