HAS ANYONE VISITED GRAND TURK RECENTLY?

I usually go to Grand Cayman but have decided to go somewhere different.I have booked to go to Grand Turk early May.I was just wondering if anyone has anything positive to say about the island. I am expecting flat, scrubby no great accomodation.Little to do except dive, snorkel and sunbathe.Do they have bugs?Any advice at all. Please if you don't like the island don't say anything negative as I've already booked and going from London is pretty expensive and I don't want to know beforehand if I have made a mistake!!
Thanks in advance.

My husband and I went to Grand Turk a couple of years ago, and we truly enjoyed it. While it lacks hills and tropical greenery, the sea is beautiful, Cockburn Town is compact and friendly, the lighthouse is interesting, and the residents proud of their home and happy to share it with you.

We stayed at the Arawak Inn, on the beach a few miles south of Cockburn Town. While it is not Ritz Carlton, our room was airy, spacious and newly renovated. The on-site bar and restaurant met our requirements for decent food, and we found it easy to drive to town for other alternatives.

I highly recommend the stingray trip to Gibbs Cay with Oasis Divers. You get to dive for the conch that make up your lunch salad, land on the beach to commune with the stingrays, and have a cookout on the beach.

Mind you, Grand Turk is a bare bones destination without a lot of action or amenities. However, a traveler in the right frame of mind will dig down to find what makes it special. We enjoyed our visit thoroughly. (Check out my report at www.homestead.com/islandtime/MainPage1.html).

Turks and Caicos is never a mistake !! Hopefully you do dive - (Grand Cayman it 'ain't ! ) - take advantage of the boat trips to cays in the area. Have a great trip.

Many thanks to the two people who responded to my question.
I had tried in the past to log into homestead but like other people have been unable to get in.Any new tips as I would love to see the photographs.
Having been to Grand Cayman six years running am very excited about going to Grand Turk.
(Grand Cayman is becoming very commercialized with endless cruise ships however I still love seven mile beach and swimming with the turtles is a wonderful wonderful experience)

Anoushka, I will e-mail you my text trip report. However, my photos are pre-digital, so I can't share those with you.
