Harbour Island Accomodations
Hello,
I am thinking about going to Harbour Island between 3/18/06-3/25/06 and I want to get some feedback on some of the hotels on the island. I am looking to pay no more than $400 dollars a night. Currently I am looking at:
1.) Coral Sands
2.) The Landing
3.) Rock House
4.) Romora Bay Club
5.) Runaway Hill Club
If I could get some feedback on these hotels that would be great. Also does anyone know if Rock House allows children under 18? I thought I saw something on their website about this.

Being one of the Harbour Island experts on the site I can tell you pretty much everything about the island.
Coral Sands and Runaway Hill are both on the beach. Both also have a pool and nice deck area.
THe Landing and Rock House are next door to each other on the Harbour Side of the island. The Landing is a bit like an upscale B&B, not much in the way of resort feeling. The Rock House is beautiful, and new, so everything there is very upscale. Nice pool area, for guests only and I think the cut off for kids staying there is 16. It's small probably not more than 10 rooms, with a lovely view of the Harbour.
Romora is on the harbour side of the island, and is really pretty as well, with great views of the water and Eleuthera. Nice pool, deck areas and common areas. Accomodations are villas so it's a bit more private. Also GREAT food there.
Our favorite is Runaway Hill, only 10 rooms and the staff is terrific, and most have been there since it opened. There is a new owner and they are planning on doing some improvements to the resort, though don't know how you can improve on perfection. The view when you walk into the main house will take your breath away.
In March, I would probably pick Rock House, since it is on the leeward side of the island, probably be a bit warmer on that side of the island.
Hope this helps and please let me know if you have any other questions.

I have always dreamed of visiting either Harbour Island or Eleuthera. I have read that it is quite a hot spot with the rich and famous, would I be able to plan a 5-6 day trip without totally breaking the bank? Anyone familiar with the Cove in Eleuthera, looks like it was redone recently,How accessible are these spots from the New York area? Would it be a whole day deal travel wise, would appreciate any info on these areas ,thanks

we just returned from Eleuthera on Saturday. Cocodimama is a great little hotel 2 minutes away from Governors Harbor Airport. If you do NY to Fort Lauderdale, then take Continental to Governors Harbor it's perfect for a long weekend or 4-5 days. We are trying to plan a return already. Cocodimama is not to expensive 200/night in season 170/night off. Their beach is beautiful. Try www.cocodimama.com

The Hot spot is Harbour Island, quite a few celebs have found it already, and bought vacation homes, but it is not too expensive, there are smaller hotels on the island that go for $75 a night still.
Eleuthera is a very different island, it's 110 miles long and all the communities are VERY spread out. Going from N. Eleuthera to Govenours Harbour will take more than an hour probably more like 2 hours drive, beautiful but time consuming.
The biggest community and there is even a stop light, is Govenours Harbour, there are a few hotels in the area and some shopping but the island is more for relaxation and there is not alot to do on the island, especially in the evenings.
Harbour Island has several excellent restaurants, a bit of shopping and one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.
Eleuthera has amazing beaches and you can walk for miles and not see anyone on the beach.
Hope this helps a bit you might try some of these websites for more info.

We are going the first week of May and have rented Bullen's Cottage for $1,000 which is supposed to be on the beach. I am hoping it is really as nice as the pictures that were sent to us by the real estate agent. We have traveled extensively and for the last 5 years have always rented homes and never paid more than $1,500 for a week and all the places have been great. We are going to rent a car for a day and explore Eleuthera but we are really looking forward to a relaxing time on Harbour and going out to great restaurants.

I have stayed in three of the five and enjoyed them in this order:
Runaway Hill Club
Romora Bay Club
Coral Sands
It is a romantic and beautiful island. Actually, if you are travelling with kids, I would be think Runaway Hill would not be the ebst choice. Very intimate and special.

I don't know Bullen Cottage, but if you are renting from Island Realty, they will have all the correct information for you. Also there are a couple of grocery stores on island so you can get what you need easily, and there's always fresh fruit, some grown on Eleuthera (pineapples and bannanas) and fresh fish (come to the fish dock in the afternoon for today's catch).
There are several nice restaurants on island, and everyone gathers at dusk for a drink and to drink in the beauty of the sunset. The porch at Harbour Lounge is always the favorite.
Reggie and Jenna Majors will be at the dock when you get there, and take you to the cottage and give them love from me. Ask Reg to take you on a tour of the island, he knows everyone and everything about the island, so if you are looking for bone fishing or any other kind of special request, ask Reg.
You also might rent a golfcart for a day to explore the entire island, and see the south part. There is an abandoned air strip on the way down to the Marina, and the N. end of the island, has the very private Rockefeller estate.
You can ask one of the water taxis to take you out to an outer cay for the day to swim, snorkle and picnic, and then arrange for a time to be picked up for dinner. There are lots of little cays off Eleuthera and Harbour Island, so you will have your own island for a day.
Have a GREAT time and please let me know if you have any other questions.
