Best unknown beaches with good swimming and snokeling
My Husband and I are trying to find a place to vacation- a small resort or inn ON a beach with extremely good beaches (meaning good sand, not many people, good snorkeling) We would like to go somewhere other than Hawaii- any ideas? Somewhere where we can relive our honeymoon

Addie,

Look into Eleutehra. It is an island not far from Nassau, 110 miles long and only 10,000 inhabitants on the island, so you can find beaches to walk where you won't see anyone for miles.

There is a beautiful resort on the leeward side of the island called CocoDiMama. The Cove is also nice as is the Rainbow Inn. Try www.where2stay.com you will find lots of nice places there, but I think Eleuthera would really fit the bill nicely.

My husband & I are making plans to travel to Eleuthera this Summer. We would like to rent a house directly on the beach. Elethera looks beautiful! And just what we are looking for. Travelbuff, if you have any house rental info on Eleuthera we would sure like to hear about it. Thanks!

Addie,

Try Asa Bethel on Eleuthera. I have rented a couple of times from him and loved the houses. There were both right on the beach, and I was all by myself there. South Palmetto Point is where he is located and I know he has several houses he rents out.

Also you might try Island Realty on Harbour Island. The site for Harbour Island is www.briland.com and you should find a website for houses for rent as well as phone numbers.

Have a great time, Eleuthera and Harbour Island are very beautiful and relaxing destinations.

Anguilla or St Barts or Nevis or the British Virgin Islands. The BVI is particularly noted for its beautiful beaches and excellent snorkeling especially in and around Virgin Gorda and Norman Island. You could stay at Peter Island resort or Biras Creek. Just some suggestions.

Barbuda/Coco Point or one of the few guesthouses. The sand here is so superb it's actually exported to St.Martin and other islands....and it's virtually tourist-free save the "millionaire's fishing lodge resort" above, K-Club (chic Italian). Both are pricey, worth the tab. Boca del Toro/Drago in Panama is another good, offbeat choice.

What about the Abaco islands. We stay on Guana Cay and there are a few small resorts on the island. Dolphin Beach Resort is nice and there is a 7 mile beach that you will have all to yourself. We have been there 5 times so far and only shared the beach with no more than 4 people. The sand is white and soft and the snorkeling is great.

I like Biras CreeK but don't consider it an outstanding resort for snorkeling. The Bahamas as noted have some great beaches but are not good in the winter. Some of the best beaches are 7-mile on Grand Cayman but no small resorts, also some good snorkeling on Virgin Gorda (love Savannah Bay Beach) you could stay at Olde Yard Inn but would need a car. Also Peter Island Resort has incredible beaches.
