grocery stores
Hi,
Does anyone know of the grocery stores are open on Cayman holidays? We are flying in June 14th and was told by the manager at Silver Sands that that days is public holiday. Just want to know how much food we should pack
thanks,
tara

The last couple of years we've flown in on Sundays when all the grocery stores are closed. As we have young children it is usually necessary to get a few items such as milk, bread, cereal, etc. Some of the gas stations along seven mile beach actually have a pretty good selection of these types of items. The price is much steeper than the grocery stores so we usually just get what we need. I was able to get enough to make dinner for the whole family this last time we flew in (hot dogs, beans, salads, etc.) I think its the Esso station just south of the Hyatt and north of the Royal Palms/Reef Grill that has a mini-mart?

We also flew in on a Sunday, and stayed on the East End of the Island. There were 3 food stores that we passed, but none were open. The little store at our hotel was even closed... we had to go out to eat, and just wait it out until the next day. There will be many more options for you though if you're staying on 7MB.

Matttara's question was re public holidays, not Sundays.
In this case June 14th (Monday) is a public holiday, but grocery stores will be open, although likely not past 5pm.
The only public holidays where everything is closed are the Christian holidays, eg Good Friday, Xmas.

We are leaving tomorrow (the 14th) for Grand Cayman. We plan to stop at a grocery store on the way to our resort (The Reef Resort on the East end). I was wondering if the stores carried American brands of milk, bread, Coke, etc. Also, do the stores carry bottled water? Thanks.
