Grand Cayman Weather next week, early July

Hi.. we are headed to Grand Cayman this Fri for a week. Looks like rain every day on forecast... is it a little rain or pouring every day. Have two kids so trying to plan ahead as to whether we'll be able to go out on the beach every day. Will we be expecting short bursts of rain or all day rain? i've heard the forecast is always way scarier than it is in reality. Thanks

I'm afraid I have found the forecasts for Grand Cayman always to be 100% accurate, especially the long range forecasts. ;-)

Rain usually consists of a short burst, rarely affecting the entire island at once. However, there can be consecutive days of rain if a tropical wave or system is moving through the area.

It looks like typical summer weather. There are likely to be showers over some of the island at some time during the day.

Normally the best weather is in the morning, then clouds build and you get showers from later AM , early PM onwards, but often only affecting small areas.

Unless there is a significant system such as a tropical wave or greater around, they have difficulty forecasting with accuracy more than a day or two out.

Best advice is to check the weather out of the window first thing each day, and hit the beach if it is sunny, as it may not last.

There is currently a large tropical depression in the Caribbean, and if it does not fully dissipate by next week, you might very well have some days with a lot of steady rain as well as frequent short bursts. I recommend checking Accuweather.com and looking at the hour by hour fore sat to get a sense of what to expect. But do it closer to the time of your departure.

most island weather reports do include some rain daily. normally this means scattered showers on scattered parts of given island. however as doug said there is a storm in the area so above may not hold true.

this site will be useful as well. you'll find reports from ppl on island on the top right. http://www.stormcarib.com/
they update regularly.

how old are your kids? i'd recommend bringing some games, books, dvds. if it's not pouring you could still go to the turtle farm or perhaps walk through the botanical gardens. there is a movie theater. the water temp is 82 right now so again unless it's raining hard the kids might still enjoy. keep in mind if it's too windy excursions/dive & snorkel trips won't go out.

hoping the storm will peter out completely for you & the gulf.

Thanks for all the replies. My kids don't care about rain they'll play in the water if there's no lightning. they are 4 and 6. I see Alex, looks like it's turning gulfward, hopefully it'll be gone soon. cheers, n

I find this site to have the best data - by hour forecast probabilities and how much precipitation can be expected. While many forecast call for rain, this at least forecasts how much; .1" vs 1" is a big difference

Unless there is a major weather system in the area, count on sun, some clouds and a brief shower each late late afternoon or early evening.
