Grand Cayman in August
My husband and I are planning a vacation to Grand Cayman in August. We've been there once before, but it was in November. Just wondering if anyone has been there in August and what your experience was re. weather, bugs, water conditions, tourists etc.

Thank you!

August will be fine. It will obviously be hot & humid so be prepred for that. It'll be mostly sunny but do expect the rain showers from time to time. Summer is the rainy season. But don't worry, showers there typcially last for a bit then go away. Plus, if it's raining on one part of the island, then simply drive 20 minutes to another part of the island.

You'll enjoy it!!!!

Lori

To nina106,
My first trip to Grand Cayman was in August, and it's very HOT!!! But also, beautiful weather, no rain and no mosquitoes or thimbles. I love it there in August!! No crowds of people because it's low season. Water conditions were bathtub warm and calm. I think the weather in August beats November, since there's less chance of rain.
Sandy

The 1st time I went to GC was at the end of August. Hot was an understatement. It was literally with humidity 130 degrees in the afternoon. I am a avid beach goer and I couldnt stand to sit in a chair for more then 2 minutes before I felt like I was baking. We spent all our time in the water. Even though the water was like 85 it was much cooler then the air. I would suggest bringing and inflatable raft. We rented then everyday from the hotel for like $8/per day.
Make sure you bring ALOT of sunscreen, 3 people used a bottle in 4 days of spf30, and we where already very tan. We still joke about complaining our eye lids where burning.
But dont be scared away. It was nice because the weather will say partly cloudy but thats what you want. Its a nice break from the sun when the clouds come and cool you off.

It wasnt very crowded on the beach which was nice. Also it was very easy to make reservations at the best restaurants with no problem.

I got a huge bug bite the 1st night on the top of my foot which drove me nuts. I was the only one though. We didnt go walking on the beach too much at night so if you plan to do that you might do it as a precaution. I swear whatever bit me, it was an enormous bump for a bug to make, and I was itching like crazy.
We did avert a tropical storm by a week though so that maybe something to look out for. It can sometimes make the sand on the ocean floor kick up and make the water cloudy.
But for the money we saved on airfare and hotel I would'nt go back at any other time.

Nina106, We were there last August and loved it. I love the beach but I am not an avid sunbather. I sat under an umbrella so I could read, so I did not feel the heat they way other posters did. I would definitely recommend renting a beach umbrella (it also saved my skin).
I wore insect repellent when we went to dinner in outdoor restaurants so bites were not a problem.
I would highly recommend Stingray City, what a great experience. Parasailing was fun too. You will have a blast.
