Grand Cayman - Getting around
Going to GC for the first time with my husband and two teenagers. Does one need a car there? Can you get everywhere safely and efficiently with mopeds instead of a car? Thanks! P.S. Am also looking to find the best outfits for resort dive courses and Stingray City trips. Any advice?

With four people, a car rental will be cheaper than renting four scooters, and I wouldn't recommend scooters for teens. (If you rent, you will be renting scooters, not mopeds, which are a different thing entirely and pretty rare these days.) But scooters are simply not safe enough. Efficient yes, but not safe enough for me.
If you are staying right on Seven Mile Beach, you can walk, ride a bike, or take a public bus to get anywhere in that area or into Georgetown, though that is more difficult at night. But a daily car rental is often cheaper than 2 taxi rides, so if you plan to leave your hotel for dinner each night, the car rental pays for itself.

I rented a car. The trick that I was told about driving on the "other side of the road" is to always make sure that the driver is in the middle of the road not driving along the shoulder.
This worked well until I arrived in the Turks & Caicos earlier this month -- where I drove a US car on the other side of the road, so I was always sitting near the shoulder.
