Trunk Bay on St John meets all of their needs. Soft, white, powdery sand. Snorkel trail, snack bar with drinks, food and chair rental but I doubt they are lounge chairs. Clean bathrooms too. Drink prices probably are "sky high" though. That is pretty standard.

My mega ship arrives at 8 am in St Thomas. It leaves St. Thomas at 5 pm. If I only wanted to see St. John, do I have time? Should I rent a car in St. Thomas and take the ferry over to St. John. I live in Florida so beach and swimming no big deal for me. I am interested in the National Park over there.

You have time, but I would take the 3pm ferry back to make sure you don't miss the ship. I would not bother renting a vehicle for that amount of time. You can easily taxi to the North Shore beaches. If you are not interested in swimming, what do you want? You could do The Lind Point trail to Solomon and Honeymoon beach if you want a little hike. There is also a great little hike across from Cinnamon Bay, about 30 minutes to see some history.
