Excellence Punta Cana

Any thoughts on this resort? I'm wanting information about the water there. I know snorkeling won't be fantastic, but I at least want to swim. Is the water rough? I'm trying to figure out what's going on from other reviews.

The water was not rough at all when we were there. It was quite calm and the beach is beautiful.

Thanks! I don't know where these reviews are coming from. What time of year did you go? Also, have you been other places in the caribbean and how do they compare?

Also, how was snorkeling? Or the food?

Do you recommend any excursions?

I so so so appreciate your help!

We were there the end of June.
We did not snorkel or take any excursions. We went to just relax on the beach which we did.
The food was actually good. Have been to other AI resorts and the food here was as good or better than others.
We have been to many Caribbean islands and the beach at Excellence was right up there with the best.
The ride to Excellence from the airport takes about an hour.

I went to Excellence last June with my boyfriend, now husband. We had a fabulous time. The worst part was an hour car ride, however, it was worth it! It was adults only. We have 5 kids so we wanted peace! They greet you with a drink and washcloth. The bar was to the right as you walk in so you can start relaxing while they get your things to your room. We had champagne and caviar for breakfast on their buffet. You could have found food for any diet. At lunch we would get a Miami vice or draft beer and have pizza or hamburgers brought to us on the beach. One day I had a free mud massage on the beach. At night we would eat two dinners! We started at six and would hit the second at 9! We never eat like that but the food and wine was wonderful! The variety was remarkable. If you like to dance, there is a club just walking distance from the rooms. They had some dinner shows and a casino. We don't gamble so we didn't go to the casino. The staff was amazing and entertaining, always helpful and never acted like they wanted constant tipping. We didn't want to leave! If it wasn't for the kids we may have stayed!

Thanks everyone!

How does the water in Punta Cana compare to other caribbean islands?

Is this resort quiet enough or should we ask for a room not near the club casino or entertainment? Is there afternoon entertainment outside? If so, we would like to get a room away from that.

People play volleyball in the pool during the day and they sometimes have other activities . We spent just about all of our time on the beach so I can't speak to how much noise drifts into rooms during the day. In the evening it was not a problem.
The casino is VERY small. We were never bothered by any noise at Excellence.

The water was a little rough at times and the red high tide flag was flying at times. We tried kayaking one morning and it was fine. The beach as clean and plenty of chairs and some beach beds available. The swim up bar was both relaxing and like being in a club at the same time. We had an ocean view room. We never had any trouble with noise. I have been to cancun, playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Antigua. Snorkeling in Cozumel is still my favorite. Antigua was beautiful and jumby bay resort was wonderful. Playa del carmen was great back in the late 90's but haven't been recently.
