That depends on your budget and what you are looking for. We LOVED Escellence, but it is adults only.

It's very subjective and I'm not quite my idea of the absolute best would suit you. What I might think is a clear deal breaker, might not bother you and vice versa.

So, take the reviews with a grain of salt. Choose what you can afford. And go and have fun.

We visited the DR and stayed at the Melia Caribe Tropical and liked it very much--but that's me.

Peace, Greenie

Just back from DR and was not impressed. DH walked the beach and we also asked a couple of locals about the 'best' hotel. The Paradisius was mentioned by two different people. In any case, the food at an AI will be average and after a few days, repetitive (at least for breakfast and lunch). Are you locked into DR??

I have heard that sunscape is decent. It has gotten good reviews. Try debbiesdominican or trip advisor for input. I stayed at Natura which had gorgeous gorgeous grounds and nice rooms. The food was o.k. breakfast was good, but the place was good for the price we wanted at the time. Other than that I would not return. To many other places.

Do you want adults only or will you have children with you.
Excellence is adults only.
Paradisus Palmas Real is supposed to be great also.

cmyer54 has had a bad experience and has been all over this site telling everybody about the D.R Let me tell you we have been going there since before AI resorts and I can't think of a place I want to be more.. forget Mexico where I felt ripped off. Sunscape resorts are fabulous...and if you want my HONEST review write me at [email protected] Sunscape has in Punta Cana just changed to a Dreams... and I can't wait to go..although Sunscape Casa del Mar in La Romana is where my heart lies

Dear Parrotmom, my review was HONEST. I am sorry if my views don't coincide with yours. As is often said, if we all think alike, all but one of us is redundant.

By the same token you shouldn't tell them to "forget Mexico"....?

We loved Mexico and didn't feel ripped off.

If you go to the posting"Bad Experience" and read my last post from this a.m. you will see where I am coming from.. I will go back to Mexico, but not to the mega resort areas...one day. We have been traveling Mexico, S. America, Central America and the Caribbean for over 20 years and my reviews are usually posted on Debbies Dominican.. the good, the bad and the ugly.. The best resort for some maybe Casa de Campo..for others it maybe a chain hotel...and of course it depends on your budget.

All this to say everyone is entitled to their opinion, one man's paradise in another mans hell.

Members of my family who have been to DR loved it....

And Casa de Campo? The "sugar barons" hotel? That's a whole new thread.....

CDC ain't what it used to be.. $$ is headed to Punta Cana to a resort owned by Julio Inglese..and buying property is very hot in that area for Americans and Europeans with all the new development.

You should try to watch "Big Sugar" by Canadian documentary film maker Brian McKenna. Interesting to say the least....
