Dominican Rep. or Mayan Riveria?
Last year we went to Tulum, Mexico for our 25th anniversary. We loved every minute of it. We were thinking of the D.R. March/April. We love to jet ski, ride a.t.v.'s and especially to snorkel. Can anyone tell us how the snorkeling is there? We also like AI's not too large. We stayed at the Gran Sole Real in Mexico and loved it. It had under 400 rooms. We like to go to "new" places but don't know much about the D.R.. Can anyone help??

Check out Punta cana in DR! Beautiful, you will not be disappointed. We've been to the Mayan riveria three times and went to Punta 2 years ago and it is still one of my favorite beaches in the area. SNorkelling is good in several areas and there are day trips to go on. Lots of hotels to find one that will suite you needs. Hope this helps

We've been both places - the Mayan Riviera is great! If you are looking at the DR, don't forget to look at La Romana as well as Punta Cana. We stayed at Casa del Mar a couple of years ago - though it is a large resort, you do not feel like you are htere with so many people - it is well situated. Last year we stayed in Punta Cana at Barcelo Bavaro Beach Resort. I found the snorkeling not quite as good in Punta Cana - Mayan Riviera has much more colorful fish. Resorts in both places offer the types of you mention. The Barcelo Maya is beautiful as well....

Thanks for the info. I think we settling in on Punta Cana. Looking at LaRomana but it doesn't seem like anything to do except for the resort. Have any of you seen Atv's or parasailing in Punta Cana? This is really helpful. Thanks for taking time to reply.

Hi we were in Punta Cana at the Occidental Flamenco Oct 19-26/02 so I have very up to date info. There was Para sailing offered on Bavaro beach oour friends did it and loved it,it was 45.00 for one. At our resort in the front store complex there was ATV tours that went to beach areas and the countryside, they were reasonable priced. I found the snorkling a little disappointing lots of fish but the coral was not that nice. The snorkle excursion from the resort was 20.00. There were a few snorkling excursions that may be better. There were banana boat rides from the resort and also an excursion were you rent individual mini speed boats that may interest you. Have to tell you though that Punta Cana is a beach vacation, once you get on that beautiful beach you wont want to do to much. Our resort was 850 rooms so may be bigger than you'd like. Karen
