Day Sail to Martinique from St. Lucia

Hi everyone...

Has anyone ever taken the day sail from St. Lucia to Martinique?

Did you enjoy it?

What was the trip all about? Was their snorkeling involved? Did you actually stop at Martinique? Was lunch included?

What type of boat was used? Would sea sickness be a problem? Or would some sea sickness pills do the trick?

What was the cost? And what tour company was used?

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks and Happy Holidays!!!

I've never taken a trip on a big catamaran (which is the type of boat that most daysails in the Caribbean are on), but I have sailed between the two islands on a 45 foot boat. The passage between the two islands is in "open" water (i.e., unprotected) so the waves can be pretty big. It's not rough in the sense that the boat will be pounding into the waves. Instead the waves are large rolling waves spread pretty far apart. A catamaran lessens the effect of this type of wave but, if you are prone to motion sickness you might be uncomfortable. You should buy a pair of seasick wristbands at a drug store before you leave for St. Lucia just in case. It's a pretty far trip between these two islands, so I can't imagine that you will be able to spend much, if any, time in Martinique. If you want to go to Martinique for a day, there is a ferry between the two islands. Their ticket office is in Castries. Your hotel can tell you where it is and give you more information. However, I think that it's pretty expensive.

You might want to consider taking the short flight to Martinique. You can either go with a tour (see Sunlink Tours at www.sunlinktours.com) or on your own. Air Martinique flies out of Castries for the 20-30 minute flight.

Hi Bonnie...

Do you happen to know the cost of the flight? Have you been there yourself and did you like the island?

Hi Jenni: You can take a tour to Martinique thru Sunlink tours which cost $245. That includes the flight to Martinique, sightseeing and lunch. Or you can do it on your own. The 20 minute flight to Martinique cost about $168 round trip on Liat airlines. You can check with any online airfare company. In February I will be visiting St. Lucia for the 5th time. I have a timeshare there. I never did the Martinique trip because my son was too young. But now that he's 8 I think we'll give it a try this year. I will probably do it on my own because I just want to check out the shops in the main area then take the ferry over to the beaches and have a nice lunch some where. If you do it own your own, I know you can hire a taxi who can drive you around to sightsee. Hope this helps.

Hi Bonnie...

Thanks for your response.

We would actually prefer to do it alone also. Do you know anything about the ferry service? Such as cost, where it departs at and can you do it round trip in a day? Have you ever been to Martinique? Would you say the trip is worth it?

Thanks again for your help!!!
