The one thing that would interest a 9 year old is the fortress, El Morro. Unless there has been a change in hours I believe the fort closes at 5pm. By time you get off the boat and get to the fort it will be near closing time. A walk around Old SAn Juan, especially along the bay on Paseo La Princesa would be of some interest to a child. If the ship docks at the foot of OSJ it is easy to find Paseo La Princesa

Definitely El Morro. My kids loved exploring it. Go straight there then walk around outside of it after it closes. Old San juan also has a pigeon park where you can buy food and feed the birds. My kids liked that too.

There are some interesting shops and a very old restaurant/bar that would be fun to stop in for a snack or soda. I'm sorry but I can't recall the name. Maybe it means butterfly in Spanish? Maybe someone else knows?
