Do we need to get to Old San Juan 1 day before cruise to see everything?

My husband and I will be taking a cruise out of San Juan on Sunday in Jan. The boat leaves at 10:00 pm but we will want to board in the afternoon. Our current plans are to fly into San Juan Sat. evening and stay in Old San Juan. Is Sunday morning/early afternoon enough time to walk around Old San Juan and see the forts and the old town? Also, I also just discovered that the Bacardi Rum Distillery is not open for tours on Sunday and we had hoped to see it. Is it worth us coming in a day early (and paying another day's hotel in the high season) to see the distillery?? Thanks.

Pam,

I can't comment on the distillery, as we did not tour it when we were there for our cruise. I can say that one day was enough for us to see Old San Juan, and the fort. We also came in on Saturday, and spent the night at the Condado hotel and casino. Saturday night in SJ is party night, and is a lot of fun. Be prepared to dress up a little bit, as that is the local custom.

You could extend your stay at the back end if the ditillery is a must see. Just a thought.

Have fun!

Our ship didn't leave till 10 either, but once you get on board you'll want to explore and check the ship out. They are so huge it's nice to have some time to get the lay of the land. Have a drink. Sit in a deck chair. Ah....

Bacardis was an ok trip, but don't go off the deep end if you miss it.

You can do one fort and OSJ in a day, but if you try for both forts, you might run out of daylight.

You can tour OSJ and the fort in less than a day. Unless you have a great desire to learn how rum is made you can skip the Bacardi tour. I don't think it is worth the time and the effort.

We came in on the cruise airline tickets to OSJ and by the time we cleared all the paperwork it was 500 and everything was closed.

Iam a tourism oparator in P.R. and I will trully tell you that you do not have to pay an extra day just to see bacardi rum distillery, but why not stay another day and see the old city and bacardi on monday. It will be better because less people will be around. We can get you a good place with a good price to stay that extra day
thanks
