Crane Hotel/Villas

We had brunch there one Sunday in December. It is a beautiful setting. Pool is gorgeous, and beach is breathtaking. Beach is a looong walk down -- hotel is on a cliff overlooking the beach. Wouldn't be the best for little children, or if you're the type to forget your sunscreen.

Although many postings say you can't swim there, we saw plenty of people swimming and body surfing.

Food was marginal, room was pretty, and gospel singers on Sunday morning were terrific.

The scenery at the Crane is beautiful (cliffsides, blue waters and white sands), but the location is rather isolated. The previous poster was correct--it's a long way down a wooden staircase to the beach. Maybe going down isn't so bad, but climbing back up is a nightmare. It must be about 4 stories/floors at least. Not good for children or someone with mobility problems. The pool area is a pretty substitute. It's also VERY windy at the Crane--the trees grow more horizontally than vertically from being blown by a constant wind.

We just returned from Barbados two weeks ago and Crane beach was one of our favorites. The beach is secluded with powdery white sand. The waves are great to play in. We rented a boogie board right on the beach and had a great time. I agree with other people that the stairs down to the beach from the hotel looked at bit scary and steep. We didn't stay at the Crane therefore we used the public access at the other end of the beach. This isn't much better because you have to climb over boulders to get there. This is not the beach for people with limited mobility or small children.
Other beaches we loved: Sandy Lane, Paynes Bay, Accra and Sandy Beach on the south coast.

While we have not stayed at The Crane, we have gone there everytime we are in Barbados. The beach is spectacular & the setting is not to be missed. There is a strong undertow there, so you have to be very careful and it's not easy getting down to the beach.

We toured the new "villas" which are timeshare while we were there last year -- very nice.

However, the Crane is quite far from everything. All of the fabulous restaurants are on the West Coast -- a good 40-45 minute drive from where you'd be at the Crane (due to traffic).

You might consider staying elsewhere and then just going over to the Crane to spend a day or 2 at the beach if you like that. You pay a $5 entrance fee if you enter from their main car park on the property. This is redeemable at the bar/restaurant.

There is a public access around the corner farther down the road, but it is hard to climb down to the beach from this.
