Coconut Coast is a great value IMO. They are condo units on a rocky beach, close to Cruz Bay and are clean and very comfortable.
Close to Cruz Bay but far enough away that you don't get town or ferry noise, only an occasional rooster.

We're headed to St. John at the end of this month and, while we were making our travel arrangements in December/January, we too were interested in staying at Coconut Coast. We sent an e-mail inquiry about availability anytime in April or May, and we never got a response--nothing, not even to let us know that they had nothing available for us. We ended up booking somewhere else and I'm sure we'll be fine, but I thought it was incredibly rude of them to not even bother to respond, one way or the other. I hope you have better luck than we did!
Catwoman,
I think it's a bit much to comdemn Coconut Coast based on the fact that they didn't respond to a single email. Did you follow up? Did you try calling them?
To say that they are "incredibly rude" is a real stretch IMO.

Calm down, Mermaid, I was expressing my opinion based on my experience, which I'm perfectly entitled to do. I did not "condemn" Coconut Coast; I merely related my personal experience trying to deal with them. And I shouldn't have to beg to get a response; I expect owners or rental agents to behave like professionals and respond to a serious inquiry made in good faith. These people didn't do that and, as a result, they lost our business. That's how the system works.

You're entitled to your opinion; however, you are not entitled to bash me for expressing mine.
Catwoman,
OK, let's breathe here. I didn't bash you for your opinion and I don't intend to. I also am not suggesting that you should have to "beg" anyone for a response to an email. All I'm suggesting is that lack of response to one single email is hardly what anyone could call "incredibly rude". The reality is sometimes emails go astray, sometimes they get accidentally deleted. Mistakes happen. All I'm suggesting is that an additional follow up on your part may have cleared up your questions.
No bashing, smashing or other nastiness, ok?

Catwoman;

Mermaid makes it a point to "express" her opionion all the time to others, and not always in a positive way. People tend to forget that this site is for opinions, and if you don't like it, you should say nothing.

Enjoy your stay in St.John.

Ducky,
I'm glad you think it's ok for me to "express" my opinion. If anyone cares to go over my previous posts I believe they will find that I am in general very positive. My only point with Catwoman is that there may have been a circumstance that she was unaware of that led to her email to Coconut Coast going unanswered. I thought that to call them "incredibly rude" was unnecessary.
As far as JJStephens' question goes, I stand by my post, that Coconut Coast represents a great value on St John. The units are clean and comfortable and you can go to sleep to the sound of the waves hitting the rocky beach. The walk to town is short but hilly. The sunset views are fantastic!!! Enjoy your vacation, whatever you decide!

So Catwoman, just curious, where did you book for end of this month? Home or Villa and what kind of rate did you get if i may ask? Coconut Coast is booked for my week of may12 so we are still looking all over at rentals. We are either heading to st john or antigua. probably st john as we have never been. any feedback would be great. thanks.

We went with Mahogany Tree Villa, which is (apparently) an extremely large house that contains three separate villas--condos, really. The rate for this time of year is shown as $1,085 per week, but the owners, Martha and Gerry Hills, cut us a deal and let us have it for an even $2,000 for our two-week stay--VERY "cheap" by St. John standards. Check it out at http://mahoganytreevilla.com/ and see what you think. According to the web site, it's supposedly only 100 steps to the beach (Frank Bay, immediately south of Cruz Bay). Good luck to you, and enjoy your trip!
