Thanks for all the help, I'm happy to report I just booked my vacation! We went through Costa travel and picked a 5 night/6 day trip to Casa Marina Reef in the Dominican Republic for $495/PERSON!!!!!! This price include airfare, hotel, and transfers. Furthermore, it is all--inclusicve and we get all meals. snacks and drinks included as well as tipping. No, I'm not advertising and I don't work for this travel company. I found the deal through the travelzoo.com website and this was one of their specials. I can't wait.

Negril, Jamaica is the place to go. I am headed there in December. I booked the following trip thru Costa Travel:
5 nights/6 days, R/T air on Air Jamaica from Boston to Montego Bay, transfers to Negril, All food & drinks, All sports (snorkel equip. incl.) at Hotel Samsara for $494.10!! The Samsara is a 50 unit village on the cliffs, and from all the info I have it looks great! It also has a sister property on the famous seven mile beach (Legends) that you can also go to via a free shuttle. You can eat & drink there for free too!
Try Karen at Costa Travel (costatravel.com) Hopefully it's not too late to book...just don't give up!!!

If you haven't already mortgaged the family jewels, and already booked, I just found barbados.org. I just started looking myself. This site has apartments for as little as $320.00 US per week. Golden Dream Villas. A one bedroom ground floor apt with kitchenette. Another one is Claridge's Inn. My question to cyber eyes is - has anyone have any experience with these apartments???? - Cheers
Judy, Judy, Judy

Those cheap prices in Barbados are a direct reflection of what you'll get! Don't believe your cybereyes, Judy. Unless your needs and standards are lower than most, that is. Go back to barbados.org & do a search for moderate, not budget. Odds are favorable you'll be sorely disappointed if you don't.

Budget Queen,

If you like beaches, you might look at the Playa Del Carmen area just south of Cancun, lots of R&R properties there, or even the island of Cozumel. Jamaica can be very expensive even for 4 niters, as can the Bahama's. If you like you can go to, www.wiredflyer.com. From there you can click on agency locator and from any of the affilitate agency's you can take a virtual tour of the different destinations offered. You will see the hotel's as well as any optional tours you might be interested in. You can also check out www.funjet.com. Some say on these boards travel agents are useless, I disagree strongly. We can be very beneficial. Good luck, and I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

If you're looking for a cheap vacation, check out Arthur Frommer's Budget Travel magazine. Tons of great information, from unbelieveable package deals to useful tips. And the subscription's only $12/yr for 10 issues. (No, I don't work for them, I'm just a satisfied customer.)

I believe Budget Queen has already taken her vacation. How about a trip report?

For future reference though, food, beverages, etc. in the Bahamas can be expensive and unless you can find a decent all-inclusive package, you may end up spending more than anticipated.

Sogn up for USAirways E-savers. they will email you specials usually every week or two. I have seen airfare deals to lots of destinations in the caribbean for $250. And if you get a condo and cook some of your meals, you should be able to do it.

They've got Natura Park in Punta Cana for $448 ($548 with tax), for 7 nights, all inclusive, with air! My mom and sister went and loved the place. Got it from Travelbyjen.com. Now that's a deal!
