Casa de Campo or Casa del Mar?
I have been to Casa De Campo (4 years ago) and absolutely loved it. How does it compare to Casa Del Mar? Sounds like CDM has a better beach area. The food at CDC was great, and my husband loved the golf (we went with two other couples). The spa services were also very reasonably priced -- are they still? Also, the liquor was top rate at CDC (we went all inclusive). Would appreciate info regarding how CDC stacks up against CDM or any other all inclusive in the Domincan Republic. We've also been to Point Pleasant Resort in St. Thomas and to Cancun. I loved the views in St. Thomas -- very picturesque. We had a spectacular view from our suite of the water with Tortola in the distance. I thought the citizens in DR were much nicer than in St. Thomas. Cancun was a disater for us -- too much of a younger crowd party scene.

Although I have been to Casa del Mar twice (the second this Feburary)...you can't possibly compare the two resorts.. CDC is one of the leading resorts in the world..CDM isnt (as a matter of fact I think it slipped for our first visit three years ago). What CDM has and I can't compare it of course is a magnificent beach..that is it. If your husband is into golf...this is a no brainer..golf is so far superior at the CDC.. BTW there is now a new airport in La Romana which is a plus instead of having to go out from Punta Cana or Santa Domingo. Spent a week in St. Thomas a few years ago and would never go back for a week and as for Cancun and Yucatan area I feel they are very overrated. Met several people who felt that you get more for you $$ in the D.R. and I thorougly agree. Yes, there are new hotels and resorts..but Casa de Campo still rates high...very, very high in all the travel magazines.

My wife and I honeymooned at Casa de Campo four years ago and have been dying to return ever since. We now have two young children and we're planning a trip sometime in the next few months. You can't beat Casa de Campo for value.

I can't imagine you'd get more bang for your buck anywhere in the Caribbean. I've not been to Casa del Mar. The small beach is a slight drawback at Campo, but it was never very crowded and there is SO MUCH to do. Take advantage of the swimming pools and beautiful grounds!!! I'm not a golfer, but all I hear about Campo's courses are rave reviews. We went on the European plan when we were at Campo and I'm glad we did. If you're not a big drinker, I think you can save quite a bit by choosing your own restaurants and keeping a bottle or six-pack in the room. Drinks and a la carte meals all seemed reasonably priced, too.

St. Thomas was very crowded and commercial for my taste. Cuba was amazing, but travel and travel arrangements from the States were a bit of a hassle (well worth it, I might add). I'm hearing great things about the all-inclusive resorts at Punta Cana, DR. And the package prices just seem ridiculously low... So we're itching to try one of those resorts on our next trip to the DR. I've heard the beaches in Punta Cana are some of the world's best. I'll let you know when we return. Good luck.

Not much after the end of the driveway...but it looks like you can walk and walk on the beach at CDM. Reading alot of positive things about Sunscape..incredible reviews by everybody including Debbie herself. The only problem I see is that the resort is aimed towards North Americans..Check out reviews of resorts at www.debbiesdominican.com (hope that's right)

That website is:
www.debbiesdominicantravel.com
Check it out for reviews of all resorts in the Dominican Republic. I haven't been to the south coast of DR but Punta Cana is spectacular. You could check reviews for the Punta Cana area at above website and see if it suits you.
