long weekend with 20 something and teen sons

We are looking for a convenient, warm place to fly to for 3 nights or so in early March with our 24 and 16 year old sons. We had thought Nassau, as its a non stop flight for us. BUT, we are not Atlantis people - our past 2 winter trips have been to Eleuthera in villas...fun for us, not so for the boys. Don't need water slides, do need things to do and sun.Any suggestions on where to stay???

If you are only going for 3 nights you should look at those islands you can reach non-stop from your nearest International Gateway city. If you'd care to share where you are flying from it would make it easier to give you meaningful responses.

For starters look at:

Puerto Rico
Dominican Republic
Jamaica
St. Martin
St. Thomas
Barbados
Grand Cayman
Cancun
Cozemel

These destinations can be reached non-stop from many of the major US airports. All are far enough south so temperatures will most likely be warm in March.

We are in Maine but fly out of Boston - Jet Blue flies into Nassau non stop from Logan - hence our interest ...

What about Miami, Fort Lauderdale or even Key West?

hi beth, my first thought is nassau/bahamas will not be hot in march. our maine winters are no slouchers so i think you will want Hot.
my suggestion is the maya riviera coast south of cancun.
jet blue goes out of pwm to cancun - it does take 7 hrs for $600 each.
or jet blue from boston is %533 in 4 hrs.
usair goes from manchester in 6 1/2hrs but it's $825.
beautiful beaches. lots of rental villas a/or resorts. tons to do: zip-lines, golf/tennis, cenotes/caves, snorkeling/diving, touring ruins -tulum, coba, chichen itza, shopping in playa del carman, atv jungle tours and 2 pretty cool eco-marine water parks - xel-ha and xcaret.
most villas come with a maid and groundskeeeper/poolman, some with a security man at night.
www.locogringo.com is an unbelievably excellent site to find all the info you'll need to make a great trip there.
if you e them with the specifics of what you want in a villa they will return with all available for booking on your dates.
we rented casa cavu on tankah bay. thought it was a good house. ysidro and rosarita kept the place in order and lived on site in a tiny casita. he is a great cook by request and of course $$.
tankah and soliman bay beaches are both excellent for snorkeling which is why we choose that particular location. both are nearest to the town of tulum.
you might prefer a villa in akumal. its' a small town but has a couple bar/rest to go to and a few small shops.
on the lg web site homepage under the 'vacation guide' find riviera maya map: aerials. photos of the entire coast down to belize. also at the bottom of each page showing a villa is a tiny airplane. click & this will show you which aerial photo that villa is on. some villas are on great beaches some on rocky shore.
the avg high temp will be around 85. rain is unlikely. it is always a bit humid there.
