I"m not sure if it's within walking distance, but it's not far. Beaches Negril has better facilities for kids (a great water park); Beaches Sandy Bay is kind of small. If it's not within walking distance, I bet they have a shuttle because they offer dine around. You should call and ask. THey will be able to tell you.

thanks - I know that they run a shuttle butit is not always reliable
have heard horror stories about rooms at the resort etc - we do not have children but there are three of us - so can't stay at the Sandals w/o paying for 4 ( two rooms) hopefully it is not as bad as we have heard - don't have much choice with the wedding

So why aren't you staying at Beaches Negril? Is it sold out?

A couple of years ago when we stayed at Sandals Negril, right next door to Sandy Bay, we were told not to walk the beach to Beaches as part of the walk was past an undeveloped stretch and it could be dangerous. We opted to take a cab which was not expensive. It may be different now. The biggest drawback to walking (assuming it is now considered OK to do so) would be fending off the beach vendors all the way there and back - not dangerous but pretty aggressive (but they do take no as an answer).

I have to beg to differ... we often walked from Beaches Sandy Bay to Beaches Negril and it's a BREATHTAKING stretch of beach! Vendors are present but a polite, "no thanks!" works wonders.
