Bahamas: People-to-People on GBI

Just read about this program on grand-bahama.com...sounds very interesting and am wondering if anyone has tried the program. It sounds like a great way to really learn more about the island and its people. The only post I've seen on this forum are from January 2005 so would love to know if there's any updates.

Hey Travelgirl:

My friend is traveling solo in Nassau and is expected to return today. She is doing the people to people program and when she gives me the 411 I'll pass it on to you. She did mention she was having tea & refreshments at the Govenor's house. She sounded a little antsy as she has never traveled alone, but I have & did the program back in 2000. Can't wait to hear how and if things have changed & her overall experience (as I recommened she try and out island excursion one day. Stay tuned.

Hey Travelgirl:

Sorry about the delay with response. My girlfriend returned from her solo trip and reported she had great success. In the middle of her experiencing the Nassau, she did meet up with her Peple to People host. She reported that her host was a nice girl who took her out to one of Nassau's hang out/places to eat "The Poop Deck" . She than ended up going to the hosts home. Very nice place with a pool in the back. Lo & behold the girls father was one of the guys who sang in the band that had that chanty hit record "Who Let The Dogs Out"! She said she took pictures and even got an autograph.

My friend reported she went kayaking, snorkeling and generally enjoyed the program.

Great! Thanks so much. I did send an email off to them about a week ago and am waiting on a response...if all else fails, I can always go to their location on the island. Thanks again and I'll report back on the program in Freeport when I return.

Hey Travelgirl:

Glad to pass on the info. I hope your email works. I don't know if my friend included interests in her email by I remember including it with mine. I know only a certain amount of slots are available so my fingers & toes are crossed for you. Remember to post the report info when u get back. Enjoy your trip
