Bahamas
I would like to take my husband to the Bahamas for his "60" as a surprise. We usually stay at all inclusives. I think the Atlantis would be too big for us with too many kids. I've read bad reviews about the Riu Resort. Anyone have suggestions for me? Help!

How about one of the outislands and stay at a smaller boutique hotel right on the beach or close to the beach.
YOu might look into Eleuthera, Harbour Island and the Abacos. The Bahamas has 700 islands, most uninhabited, but close by for off island trips.
Try these websites.
www.myharbourisland.com
www.runawayhill.com
www.romaorabay.com
www.briland.com
www.eleu.net
www.coconuttelegraph.com
and
www.where2stay.com
Hope this helps have a great time, and let us know if you have any other questions.

Since you like all-inclusives, look at Sandals Royal Bahamian. We stayed there in Sept. 03 and loved it.
If your not a Sandals fan, look at the Raddision. It was our 2nd choice, but decided to go for the resort with no children. Did not regret the decision.
We did a day trip over to the Atlantis and did not care for it. Crowded with many people and kids running around. Also lots of tour groups. The staff was very nasty to non-guests, and food/drinks prices were amazingly high. Couldn't wait to get out of there and go back to Sandals.

diva45,
Try: www.caribbeanway.com, www.bahamas-rentals.com
www.vrbo.com
Also do a google search for "bahamas vacation villas"
We last stayed on Eleuthra and had a great time. I believe the villa we rented was in Double Bay. One of the best beaches on the island. Eleuthra is very secluded, so if night life is of importance I would not go there.

We just got back from a trip to Paradise Island. We stayed at the Riu and loved it.The food was good and the room was nice. We had a balcony overlooking the beach and pool. The only down side was the entertainment. It was awful.

Hey diva45:
If your only interested in staying on/in Nassau or Paradise Island have u thought about the Ocean Club? A little pricey, but while I was at the RIU in December, new construction was undereway, so new wings might be available.
I also ventured into the "village" at Atlantis' pier & u may be able to book a room there, & use the beach, casino inside the Atlantis but escape to a much smaller property at night.
I'd definately check out the "out islands for a different laid back relaxed feel". Went to the travel a couple of weeks ago at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC & the Bahamas tourism board was nice enough to send me several brochures with breakdowns of each w/hotels & features. Check them out at OutIslands.Bahamas.com.
