mgmargate,
I've read of several additional places that you should visit - they are frequented by people with lots of money, but no taste or class.
The clientele likes to mention that they are wealthy and name all of the places and resorts that they have been to so that they will feel superior to others.
They even make nasty comments about others not being able to afford to go to the places they can, and they truly show their ignorance by asserting that because a place has a "huge slide" or a tacky, contrived, fake "ruin" complete with captive animals, that it is the be-all and the end-all of what resort style is all about.
I'm only glad that I will NEVER have to worry about running into you where I choose to vacation. You see, our tastes are so divergent that it simply won't happen, and for that, I am eternally grateful.

We have never gone to Atlantis, mainly because I hate big crowds and lined up beach chairs. (among other reasons mentioned by others) But, we just may breakdown and visit, only for my son's behalf. From what I've heard, kids love the place, and that's probably why so many go to visit.

mgmargate - look in the mirror. you are the one with the attitude.
my opinion is not irrelevant. this is a travel message board. it is all about opinions. i think some may find it useful to know that the rooms and restaurants at the Atlantis are not what you might expect for the prices that the resort charges.
And I have no idea where there are other places that have huge slides and things like the Dig. I never said that there were other such places and I haven't disagreed that kids love the place. I have limited my comments to the rooms and restaurants.
And congratulations on your wealth and ability to stay at 5 star hotels all over the world. You may, however, want to look into the reasons that compel you to make sure we all know it.

Tom: You jumped on Diana's bad value judgement of Atlantis, she even insinuated that people who go there aren't savvy or sophisticated, that's nonsense. My response was to enlighten her to the fact that many of the people who go there are among the most savvy and well travelled people around who stay in nice places around the world and surely know what is valuable to them.I wonder wether either one of you took kids when you went to Atlantis? If you didn't that would tell me all I need to know about your opinions.

Most of the debate on how expensive Atlantis is could be eliminated if people knew the cost of running such an operation. They are very high in capital investment and operating expenses are off the charts. The biggest expense is the aquariums. Don't compare Cap Jaluca or Four Seasons Nevis to Atlantis...its apples to oranges. You have to go to Atlantis expecting bad service and mediocre food. To get the rooms, service and food of 5 star properties at Atlantis they would have to charge $1,000/night minimum. Take it for what is...a huge disney like property that is worth seeing once. Good day!
