Aruba....here we come!

Going to Aruba with my husband and two boys (ages 7 and 11) in July. This will be our first time to Aruba and we are staying at La Cabana. I would appreciate any information anyone can provide regarding La Cabana, as well as kid-friendly restaurants and excursions. Thank you!

It's me again! I forgot....I would also like information on nightly entertainment that would be of interest to the kids. Any shows or activities in Aruba that are kid friendly? Also, how are the theme nights at La Cabana...I believe there are 3 theme nights...any better than the others? Also, is it necessary to make restaurant, excursion, or show reservations early? If yes, how early? Would I be safe in waiting until our arrival?

LaCabana is a great family resort. We have stayed there twice and loved having a full suite. Kid friendly restaurants abound in Aruba. Some we liked are Tony Roma's for ribs and chicken, Champions Sports Bar for pub food at the Marriott Ocean Club and Alfredo's for Italian food which is located directly across the street from LaCabana. My daughter also liked Le Petite Cafe where you cook your own food on red hot stones. As for nightly entertainment, there really isn't much going on which isn't an issue for us as we are usually up very early and ready for bed around 10ish. LaCabana does have a few theme nights but we never went as we usually ate off site each night. Reservations - we've never made them before hand and never had a problem going where we wanted to go. Hope you love Aruba like we do!

Thanks, muylinda! Did you stay in a grand suite in the back? Does a certain block of suites have a better location than another? Have the suites been newly renovated?

Hi MAmom!
I'm another MAmom who had a great time at LaCabana (but without the kids). We stayed in a grand suite in the back, and the room was great. It was a little walk to the beach across the resort, but the section does have its' own pool which is very nice (has a little waterfall). I'm not sure if it's been renovated recently, however.

That makes the three of us MA Moms! We stayed in a grand suite located in the middle block of buildings (there are three sections). I think the front section is the older section and the suites aren't quite as large. The walk from the middle section is only about 5 minutes and we liked having the Dunkin Donuts kiosk right outside of our building to pick up our quick breakfast before heading to the beach. If you think of anything else, feel free to ask. Linda

Hi - We just returned from La Cabana last night. It was our 8th trip there. ( We actually own a week there...the July 4th week. ) You and your kids will love it. July is a very busy time since lots of families from South America like to vacation then. There is a desk where you can book activities through Pelican Watersports which has the franchise at La Cabana. In all honesty, I prefer De Palm tours. I think they have better tours. One of their offices is right next door at Paradis Beach Villas. Check both out before you book anything. You could probably do a search online for both and see the tours.
There is miniature golf not far from the resort. All the suites in the beach and racquet club part have been recently updated. The villas are newer and have not be updated. There are always lots of kids around and your kids will find many friends. The activities desk also has 2 gals that will make dinner arrangements for you. You kids would probably enjoy The Bucaneer. It has a huge fish take which is one full wall of the restaurant. One reasonable restaurant, in town, that we really enjoyed was Que Pasa? Great food and very reasonable for Aruba. There are so many great places to eat...but many are quite expensive...especially for a family.
The snorkeling is fantastic and there are some great horseback riding trips. Search out those two tour operators and check them out. Enjoy and ask any other questions. I'll be glad to answer.

Hi again - I forgot to mention a restaurant that your kids would love. Yes, it has become very, very touristy, but its still fun. Its now called Twinkelbones. ( It used to be called Twinkeltones. ) You eat dinner and then the waiters, chef, etc put on a show that you become part of. You sing, dance and have a great time. The kids really love it.
