All Inclusive Resorts, Jamaica
My boyfriend and I are looking to go to an all inclusive resort in Jamaica in the fall. We are in our mid-20s, and we are the type of people that like to stay active during the day and night. Basically we're looking to have a great time and get the most for our money (we would like to keep the cost reasonable, but are willing to pay for what we want) Is the fall a good time to head to Jamaica? Will it be overly crowded? Any recommendations on hotels?

Pending whatever Hurricane season is this year( get some inexpensive travel/trip cancellation insurance on www.travelguard.com), Jamaica in Sept up to 2nd week in October can be wonderful weather. And crowd-free. Negril is probably your best match--see Rockhouse, Swept Away, Idle Away and RIU for best bets for price. The Westside wanderings bulletin board on www.jamaicans.com is the place to start.

Here I go again. Reconsider all inclusive. I have done both in Jamaica and found that half the fun was trying new restaurants and bars - in Negril anyway. Look at Coco LaPalm, Idle Awhile and Charela for quiet, more upscale and a price range. Look at Fun Holiday, Rondele Village if you want to be closer to the parties. Look at Nirvana, Yellow Bird for real island feel. Get tons of recommendations about where to have lobster a thousand different ways- and cheap ways and set out on the search for the best dirty banana. Eat at a couple of places on the cliffs - add in a couple of romantic dinners - even have wonderful Italian food with your toes in the sand.

I love all inclusive AND trying the great eating experience that Negril has to offer. Our first stop after checking in at our all inclusive will be 3Dives for the best jerk chicken and lobster in the world. I don't understand the thinking that says if one stays at an all inclusive they MUST never leave the resort. We've never done that...

I highly recommend Swept Away if your idea of active includes every type of sport, water sport, tennis, yoga, racquetball, tai chi, couples massage classes, power walks on the beach, an Olympic-size pool, and guest instructors and classes constantly throughout the day. Every month has a different theme and you can check sweptaway.com to see what it would be for the month you'd be going. I know that in October there's a reunion where travel agents & longtime guests stay there. We went twice in September and it was uncrowded. Remember it's hurricane season in the fall. We had great weather - short rain late in afternoon for a change of pace. If you think you'd be interested in this place, you can e-mail me at [email protected].
