Airline fares

Does anyone know if/when airlines fares to Barbados usually go down? I have reservations for a RT flight out of Washington, DC. I haven't purchased the tickets yet because I've been waiting for the elusive Spring/Summer sale prices. Unfortunately, the fares have gone up since I made the reservations this past winter! Flying on American Airlines 7/1-7/9. Any advice? Should I just bite the bullet on this one (current RT price is $880/person!)

YOWZA! We often see fares like that from our home base out in the hinterlands --(which is why we use FF miles) -- but I'm wondering what you mean when you say "I have reservations for RT flight" that you have had since last winter, but for which you don't hold tickets.

As for whether you should bite the bullet and pay the $880 for a trip in July, my vote would be "No". I don't think you're going to do much worse by waiting a bit longer and there is still some time to do better.

Maybe the prices are high because of the July 4th vacation. If you are committed to that week, I would book now. You can monitor the fares after that and if they drop, you can be credited.

I agree w/ the naysayers -- $880 is ridiculous! We paid $325 pp on American Airlines from JFK to Barbados in March -- "high season." I'd hold off, or wait until a better time. I've heard ticket prices are going up right now. Perhaps wait for last-minute deal or for prices to cool.
Hope this works out for you.
Best,
Kelly

if you are flexible by a day or 2..check the rates for different dates and see if its cheaper. We recently bought tickets to St John and I kept checking prices..they finally came down a little and I bought them...the next day the tickets went sky high so you never know

US Air has a $339 international e-saver right now:
Depart - Various Days: May 10 - July 2, 2005
Return - Various Days: May 16 - July 9, 2005
Purchase Tickets by Monday, May 16, 2005

Check their website for the lowest fares. I know some people are down on US Air, but I have had nothing but stellar results from them, and fly 25K miles a year with them.
