rxtennis,
It depends on what time of the day you are coming in and when you are leaving. We fly thru STT on our way to the BVIs and stay overnight. We try to arrive in early afternoon and leave on the morning ferry. That gives us an afternoon of beach time on STT which we usually spend at either Bolongo Bay or Secret Harbour.
Secret Harbour has the better beach and hotel rooms, but BB has the best staff and ambiance ever!
No question for me - Bolongo Bay!

Bolongo is way too far away...
I stay overnight once a month in St. Thomas...
Emerald Beach Resort is the best place for overnights before leaving via airport.
Awesome sunsets, food, atmosphere and beach...offshore snorkel for last minute memories.

You picked the right place if you have 18-24 hrs. in St. Thomas. we had 14 hrs. including time to sleep so we stayed at the Holiday Inn in town and 20 minutes from the airport. It was a bit tacky but sheets and rooms were clean at 60%+/- of Emerald Beach.
