I can't stand Angelina Jolie, either, and I don't think she is a very good actress.
My favorite is probably Laura Linney. I also really like Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, Susan Sarandon, Annette Bening and Nathalie Baye. For younger actresses I really like, but wouldn't put in those top categories yet: Nathalie Portman, Anne Hathaway. I like Renee Zellweger a lot, she is sort of in the middle, but doesn't seem to have done much lately--at least nothing I remember.
I always thought Elizabeth Taylor was a horrible actress, I'm surprised someone named her. Her voice was like nails on a chalkboard, for one thing.

Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson and Helen Mirren - pretty much in that order.
For escape/just laugh movies, Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts.
It was a thrill to see Vanessa Redgrave act again. I'd love to see her on stage. I love Katharine Hepburn movies too.
I'm not a fan of Angelina Jolie either, though I heard Salt is good so I'll probably go see it. LOVED Scarlett Johansson as a child actress, especially in Manny and Lo.

I like Cate Blanchette, everything she is in is good and Penelope Cruz (I was lucky enough to meet her last week, I hope you guy don't mind if I mentioned that, but it was exciting) She was beautiful and sweet even without makeup.

I love Angelina Jolie! Also Helen Mirren, Cate Blanchette, Penelope Cruz. And, as mentioned, Sandra Bullock in comedies.
Funny but Laura Linney bugs the crap out of me. Maybe I haven't seen the right role but she almost ruins Love Actually for me.

I think Love Actually stinks so Laura Linney couldn't ruin it for me. I really like her in some roles although she's beginning to get a little same-y for me.
Tilda Swinton is an amazing actress. And I think these were all named above, but I admire the work of: Julianne Moore, Penelope Cruz, Cate Blanchett and Judi Dench. Meryl is great in even the worst junk.
I am posting on every thread. Could someone please stage an intervention. I have work to do and a house to clean.
