Going in mid June. Staying for one night on route from Vancouver to a Caribou country guest ranch.

Want to get some feedback on the Four Seasons Hotel, I've searched these threads and have not found anything on it (possibly because it is relatively new), but this seems to be the hotel that appeals to me most in terms of decor and location.

Also wanted to get feedback on the Edgewater hotel. I've searched the threads and found complaint about the cleanliness, poor mattress quality and ventilation. I was disappointed because when I first say the view from the rooms it seemed perfect until I read the poor reviews here.

So I wondering if anybody who has stayed there recently can tell me if those problems are still existent, and if anybody who has stayed there would recommend it.

I am sorry that the options seem to be a smaller, locally owned option that would be ideal except that it is of poor cleanliness standards,
And huge generic hotels that are clean but... impersonal. B&B's are out of the question because we are only there one night, and most have a two night minimum.

Can't decide. Please help

Can't help you with your Edgewater questions but can pass on the comments of a good friend who recently stayed at the new Four Seasons Hotel in Whistler. While she enjoyed it, she prefers the Fairmont Chateau Whistler where she stays a couple of times a year. She found the Four Seasons' decor "cold" and likes the Chateau's position on the mountain better.

Anybody else stay at the Edgewater?
It's between the edgewater and Fairmont Chateau Whistler.

The Edgewater Lodge has only 12-rooms located at the green lake just 2 miles north of the Village. You will need a shuttle or car to reach the village. The Resort (type bed & breakfast) offers integrated activties like horse riding.

The Four Seasons Resort Whistler is a brand new luxury resort hotel located in Whistler's Upper Village (The gondolas, resturants & nightlife at Whistler village are within walking distance).

We've enjoyed whistler and tofino recently and always opt for something quiet and beautiful if we can find it when we go anywhere. In Whistler, I would say emphatically, don't stay in the village!!! (Unless you are a kid). It's a party scene at night and you get to get woken by those crawling out of the bars at all hours.
I'm not interested in the large 5 star experience like the Fairmont or the 4 Seasons (although we did enjoy a drink there!). Their room prices were stupid.
Edgewater Lodge is out on Green Lake and is really beyond beautiful. When we were there, some other guests told us not to tell anyone about this place so I guess this is treason.
The view from ourroom was beyond beautiful. It is small though. A unique place for sure. I loved the feeling and believe they don't try to be what they are not - a luxury hotel. They're not too rustic either. So just right.
Their accommodations I would rate as 3 star, the evening dining is fantastic and I would rate as one of the best in the valley so 5 stars, and the views are beyond the realm. When we visited in March, they were gearing up for some improvements so I can't comment on what that will lead to...
I found the longtime staff lovely and very accommodating and we loved the rooms, beds, etc. and were very pleased.

I have been to Whistler hundreds of times over the last 21 years and I would definitely look at staying at the Four Seasons or the Chateau Whistler if you are looking for an upscale experience. At the Chateau Whistler, ask for a mountainside room on a higher floor. At the Four Seasons Resort, ask for a corner mountainside room. There is also a Residence Inn higher up Blackcomb Mountain (highest resort up the hill) and it is very nice. Also, the Summit Lodge are in the newer North Village, convenient and 5 minutes walk to the main village. Also, the Westin Resort and Spa and the Pan Pacific are lovely and close the main village, but away from the late-night noise.

Stay away from the places on Green Lake - they are in an older neighborhood and a 30 minute uphill walk to the village on the Village Trail. There is also a bus service.

There are also lots of options to rent a house or apartment.....

There are two subdivisions on Green Lake. One on the North end 6 miles from town and one at the South end 3 miles from town.
The south end adjacent the Edgewater estate is a very high end subdivision called Nicklaus North. Lot's of very nice homes and they do rent them. About a 5 min drive to the village and about a 20 minute walk if you wanted to...

If you are a Four Seasons type of guest, you won't want to stay at the Edgewater. It does have great views and fine dining, but the rooms are 3 star.
I would recommend the Chateau or the FS. The Chateau has more of a mountain feel, and the FS is brand new. For dinner, Sushi Village for the best sushi,Trattoria Umberto for Italian, or Araxi, consistantly voted best restaurant. Have a great stay. Cheers, Al
