lodging in Vancouver -favorite place?

Traveling in late April for the first time to Vancouver. Would you recommend a B & B or a hotel? Would prefer something romantic vs something modern. Where is your favorite place to stay and why?

My favorite place to stay in Vancouver is the Wedgewood Hotel on Robson Square. It's lovely, small, friendly, and extremely well located; the restaurant is wonderful!
Whilst this is also the ONLY place I've stayed in Vancouver, I've stayed in enough hotels, apartments, and so forth around the world to say that this is one of the nicest (not most elegant or pretentious, but nicest ) places I've stayed in. I wanted to move in!

Emma,
Our next trip to Vancouver would be to stay at the Wedgewood Hotel. (http://wedgewoodhotel.com) While we stayed at the beautiful Sutton Place Hotel we also heard great things about the Wedgewood. As both hotels are a few blocks from one another we walked over to investigate. After viewing as much as we could,it got our vote. Nice restaurant (Bacchus) next to small lobby. This is a much smaller, intimate hotel than the Sutton, if this is what you are looking for. It is ideally centrally located in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

Here's another vote for the Wedgewood! It's one of the nicest places I've ever stayed, for reasons which have already been well-documented by the above posters and which I can only echo.

boy, am i glad to see these replies. we have booked at wedgewood for a week in early april, based on our reading and on some prior comments on this site and on the conde nast traveler "best" lists in the recent issue. sure sounds like we have made a wonderful choice. by the way, emma, we were most pleased at the reasonable rates we got...around 250 cdn nightly for a room with a separate sitting room.
