London to downtown T.O. - rush hour
For those experienced with the 401/427/Gardiner rush hour, let me know if this is possible:

I will be leaving London at about 4:00 p.m. during a weekday. I need to get to a game at the ACC by 7:15, and if time permits, check in at the Radisson Plaza on Queen's Quay before walking over to the ACC. Am I cutting it too close? I appreciate any responses.

Sounds too tight (and I'm assuming you're not traveling in the winter which renders all estimates moot).

You could get tied up around the airport (401/427) and again on the Gardiner, with traffic for the game. Also, while it's close, it's still a 10 minute walk from Radisson Plaza. I live west of downtown and have found that increasingly traffic is incredibly unpredictable - the drive that took me 15 minutes yesterday is 45 minutes today, with no obvious differences.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Elizabeth, actually I'm going next week. So I guess I would have to set out much earlier. I have much more experience with the area north of the 401 and seldom venture downtown. Am I right to assume that the 401/427/Queenway/Gardiner is my only feasible option for this trip? How about 403/Queensway/Gardiner; would that be any better with traffic flow?

Hi Paul, Do you mean the Queen Elizabeth Way when you say Queensway? I think so. Anyway, I would say taking the 401, 403, QEW and Gardiner would be better than going straight along the 401 to 427. You would avoid all the traffic south of th Airport.
You'll be all right til you get to Oakville on the QEW and it could bog down there. I think you should allow yourself more time. I have left Burlington to go to ACC and given myself 90 minutes and just made it, by the time I park etc. So you could do it in 3 hours, but it wouldn't be allowing any extra time. Allowing 4 hours should give you time to spare.
I drive from London frequently and always use 401 403 QEW route.
Good luck
Just to be specific: that's 401 east to 403 west (which you pick up before the Toronto airport- not the one that you take to go to Brantford/Hamilton after Woodstock); to the QEW eastbound which, near downtown, becomes the Gardiner Expressway. Stay tuned to 640 am radio because they have the traffic reports constantly and it has saved me a lot of grief by knowing what detour or lane to take.

Geez, thanks Bonnie - that was close. I was all prepared to take the 403 at Woodstock, which seemed odd at first, but I trust those who fight the hordes every morning/afternoon. I forgot about the 403 exit as I get into Toronto. am590/640/1010 are preset on the radio. Thanks again.

What on earth is Bonnie taking about. What she is saying does not make sense.
I certainly DO mean to take the 403 at Woodstock and follow it all the way to the QEW at Burlington...then continue downtown on the QEW and Gardiner. It IS quicker.
Also the radio station you want is 680 AM. It's THE station to listen to for traffic.
Good luck.
